So guys what is the easiest and least expensive replacement for a t-5? I am presently about 350HP at the flywheel and 370ftlbs at same. I am considering a supercharger so I need something to no more than 500hp. I would like something easy to bolt up with few mods. Also with what ever you recommend will the vss and backup light switch just plug in??

When my t-5 started to fall apart, i looked on corral for transmissions. I found a guy who had a 94-95 5.0 TKO setup (the older style, before they made the torque ratings) included bellhousing, clutch (trashed, bought a new one) flywheel, clutch fork, alum. d/s, and shifter. If
you're on a tighter budget, i would look into astro performance's built t-5s (a-5s i believe is what they call them). But then next step would
be a tKO.

The Tremec 3550 that is in my 95 GT rocks! I have had a few T-5s in my day and while they are okay, none of them compare to the feel of my Tremec!

T5z or a Tremec 3550...

T5z's are actually pretty strong. There is a dude on another forum that had a T5z in a ASC McLaren Capri that has hit it with Edelbrock Heads, Cobra Intake, etc. and hits it with a 150 shot. 11 second car..he beat the hell out of it for over 2 years I wanna say. Still works last time I checked.

Since then he has upgraded to a TKO600. He decided to go bigger to a huge mean ass 347.

Astro A5 would be the easiest with minimal parts needing replacement.

For a TR3550, I went with a fox bell housing/clutch fork setup, Steeda driveshaft spacer, had to remove the midpipe exhaust hanger from the trans crossmember, and flip the crossmember around (bolt it in backwards).

Nothing hard about it.

Tremec does not sell the 3550 anymore.

The tko 500 replaced it.

As far as I know tremec does still sell parts for it if someone needs to rebuild.

Did Tremec ever fix the hard high rpm shifting folks complained about? I know folks I talked to on stangnet said around 6000+ rpms they were a bit difficult to shift.

id look into a 3550 they can be had for a pretty cheap price and will hold up great to 500 hp... i had a t-5 in my old fox it had upgraded gears synchros, bearing retainer, etc. and it held up great to a h/c/i with a 150 at the track and some 11.5 sec passes at about 120 mph so... but thats on a lighter car also...

I would love to grab up a new tranny with my budget motor build.

and why did you get rid of the fox?? As much as i love my SN i would love to have a Fox. It was kinda like with my old MR2 i should have kept the thing i loved it and it was a little over 2000 pds with me in it and a full tank of Gas.
