I got a new tach I'm having trouble getting working. Can I just pop the hood, hook up the negative on the tach to the negative on the battery, the positive on the tach to the positive on the battery, and the signal wire to the negative on the coil? I'd like to test with the simplest configuration possible, so I can then rule out what is wrong. I'd like to just do it all right there under the hood. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

theres a wire behind the dash that your cluster uses for RPM.

Id go with pic number 1 and make sure the little wires in the back of the tach are cut correct for your application. IF its set up for a 4 or 6 cly it might not read right on your car..

Yeah thanks guys. Does anyone happen to have the full rundown on that connector in the first pic? I would like to be able to hook up the rest of my gauges someday too. I'm planning on building a custom gauge cluster. So it can all look factory. Oh but my car is a 94 GT, and that pic says "mustang_98" or something when you save it. So I think its for a 98 but there may not even be any difference.
