Well I had this problem once before and it has come back to bite me in the ass. My car is being a pig on gas as I have been driving INCREDIBLY cival due to gas prices being outrageous, ie, driving 50km in 4th gear, coasting 3-4 blocks if there is a right light etc. But they haven't helped my my guage reads a little above 1/4 tank left and I have 160km on it, last tank at the same mark was around 240-250km. It also is feeling more sluggish than usual too. This happened in october of last year aswell and I cleaned the MAF and it was good to go but its acting up again. Is my MAF finally bit the dust? If it helps its the factory stock one...

EDIT: Was bored so I took a look at it, there was a thin black layer of dirt on the mesh(almost like soot) so I took the MAF cleaner, sprayed it off and there was some dust around in the inside too, Hopefully that fixes it, or I need a new MAF :(.

First off, nice car :thumb:

Second, I thought You could just take out that Mesh? Anyway I had horrible gas mileage when my O2 sensor went out. You might want to look into that as well.

+1 on cleaning the MAF but don't forget to reset the puter it needs to relearn the clean MAF and do you have a K&N filter too that may be where the grime is coming from i took mine off and replaced it with a stock paper filter no more probs

It does have a K&N right now, It was black on the area where the air filter holder thing is, so I just turned it to a cleaner area. I thought K&N's were good filters too, my dad uses one on his B4000 and he hasn't had any issues. Also if this helps, There is a smell of stail fuel sometimes in the engine bay. Im going to fill up with gas tonight, and if it doesnt help it any, I'll try the O2 sensor. Also thanks for the compliment on the car! Since the passenger side has a big dig from when my bro owned it, im getting it fixed this summer and might put a cobra bumper on in the process :).

did you pull the maf out to see if that was dirty too K&N filters are good filters and flow nice too BUT when you clean them they have to be reoiled and if you use to much it can make its way through the filter and onto the screen and MAF wire some cars are more susceptible to the oil than others IDK bout the stail fuel smell

I took out the whole MAF unit, and cleaned it. I might have put to much oil on it when I cleaned it last year and it finally started to effect it. The stale gas smell was gone today, before and after school so I think that was my brothers crappy 90 aerostar.

EDIT: Alright after the fill i checked mileage, I6.5mpg compared to 19.5mpg last time, and I drove the exact same way for both tanks...

No reason to caps lock it :p. But I dont think we do, all we have special is the ethanol blended fuels and bio-diseal stuff. So far, the car is doing good as it hasn't moved a tick from F and i have 30km on the tank, So it might have been the grime/dust in the MAF...
