ok so i know people are going to say just remove all the egr shit but i dont want to throw a CEL. i took the smog pump and those rubber hoses off and now the only thing left is the egr solenoid on the throttle body and the egr pipe that goes from the back side of one head to the backside of the other. question is the pipe on the backside of the heads bolts on with 2 feels like 10mm bolts (i know it will be a bitch to get it off) my pipe has a hole in it and has SUCH an irritating exhaust leak. i know ford sells like a screw plug to put in the holes to delete that pipe all together BUT they want $19/each and they gotta order them anyone know the thread pattern and length so maybe i can get some bolts and washers and do a DIY cheaper fix.

i have one of those bolts and a neighbor has another. I could check with him when he gets back into town next week and maybe sell you them for 5 dollars shipped or something.

once you remove the crossover tube (which has nothing to do with the EGR BTW) you need to use two 5/8-11 bolts, no longer than 1" and thread them into the back of the heads. The threads will have some carbon build up so you can either use a battery terminal brush and some carb cleaner to clear it out a bit... or carve 3-4 grooves across the beginning of the thread on the bolts to basically turn them into thread chasers... the second option is what I did. you will get them to thread in only a little way, then just work it back and fourth like a tap.. it sill slowly clear out the threads, and work its way right in there.

definitly NOT 9/16.... definitly 5/8-11 :coolsmiley:

9/16-14 is the correct size, get full thread and then just cut them down to about an inch, use a mixture of loctite and thread sealer and you'll never have to mess with them again

then could you please explain why i just did this mod about 2 weeks ago with this size bolt and they threaded right in? i still have the nut laying around that i used to make sure the threads were straight after i cut the bolts......

maybe you would like to clarify what heads your using on which engine?

all heads use the same thread, and its 5/8" 11 pitch.. I even have a TFS thermactor plug here that I would be MORE than happy to measure out with a micrometer for you. and compare it to a 9/16" bolt.

I assure you... you are wrong!

because when you are threading a smaller bolt into a hole with a thread pitch that is close, it will work, but it doesnt mean its the right size..

Case in point.... so kiss my ass

went to home depot the other day and i got the 5/8-11 bolts but i couldnt find anything smaller then 2" so i got some nuts and they didnt have washers.

so im using one bolt with two 5/8's nuts and the amount of threads left is just a hair under 1" so it should work. but if i can find some 5/8" washers i will use those lol

just cut them down with a hacksaw or cutoff wheel. If they are too long, they might hit the firewall while your trying to put them in.
