unless your building a drag machine, theres no reason to go to an electric WP

The quality has went up greatly in the last several years on the Electric WP's. There is no reason a person can't run one on a daily driven street car. I had one on my nova and it made almost 30k miles in Death Valley and even with several cross country trips. The hour rating on some high quality WP's is longer than the warranty most manual WP and even out last a lot of your standard Autzone/Pep Boys reman parts.

I'm not trying to say that they are 100% better or anything but the idea that you can't run EWP at all is silly. Heck even Ferrari and Porsche have factory EWP's on some of their engines.

And the reason to run a EWP is just as much about consistency with coolant distribution than it is with freeing up the few ponies on the top end by helping to reduce rotational drag.

an oil change in a Ferrari also costs $1500.....

they're more stable but not practical for a daily driven car, if they fail your getting towed home, with a mechanical they usually have a fail period of atleast a week

theres really no reason at all to switch to one unless you just want to waste money, and if thats the case you can help buy my new k member and actually make a difference in a car....... hell, you could do a good bit to your own suspension and feel a difference rather than essentially wasting it, mechanical pumps work fine.... do something that will make a difference

well reason i want one is because it is less drag on ur engine... i know that it wont help a lot but i mean just as long as it helps ill be happy... also yall are right on the price there expensive... i noticed summit had some waterpumps for $130 or something like that... I went to 50resto.com and they had 0ne for $120 plus shipping but there is none available at that time.

What are you trying to get absolutely every last little bit of power for your street car?

a quality electric water pump that retains heat and contains the dummy pulley for the serpentine belt is going to cost you around 500 bucks.

waste of time / money for minimal gain

the only advantage it has over stock is the ability to run it with the engine off, thats about it

minimum you'll spend 300 for a good one and it wont help, trust me, the only thing my old shop had ever ran them on were hot lap drag cars

I have a Meziere pump on the 306 I built for the notch, but only because I think it's neato and because I got it for $300.

There's no reason you can't run one on a car you drive frequently. Several friends of mine have run them with no problems. My friend Nic runs one on his 800 rwhp 9 second turbo camaro on the street all the time.

As stated, the power-per-dollar is pretty high. They're cool, but I wouldn't shell out $500 for one.

Paul.
