Electrical Problem!!!!!!

A few Sundays ago I went to start my car to head home. When I started it, it started like maybe the starter was weak. Kind of like when you start a car with a battery that doesn't have any juice. I also noticed all the electrical stuff on the cluster flickered as well. So anyway, it finally started then I noticed the battery light was on. Then I look outside the car and I see smoke pouring out of the hood. I quickly shut off the car and pop the hood. The fusible link that goes to the fuse box on the driver's side had melted. So yesterday, I went out and bought a brand new alternator from Advance Auto Parts and got another engine harness. I install everything correctly. Car started up great. As it was running, I see the alternator smoking. I shut off the car and inspect everything. Alternator was sh hot, you can cook on it. The fusible link was pretty hot, but not hot enough where it could melt. So that's where I am with it. I'm totally lost with what to do. I don't wanna give up on her but I'm at that point. Wanted to see if anyone could help out on the subject.

i see you have an HID kit. Could it be possible that you are drawing too much current? The fact that your fuse caught fire has me leading to believe that you either are drawing to much current or that there is an open short somewhere, engine fires are not good and i wouldnt recommend driving until its remedied.

Oh! Your drawing A LOT of current somewhere. There are only a few things that will fry the fusable link.
Start by checking larger cables like the starter and body leads from the battery. May have a cable w/ the
insulation worn off or something of that nature. Could be something within the starter itself.
May have to get a Ford tech on it. Better than having a "melt-down".

OK here is an update. I took a look at all the wiring under the car. Wiring is fine. Found nothing melted. I even went as far as disconnecting the start as the car is running and its still has the same problem. BUT, If the car is running and I disconnect the battery, it doesn't do anything. Stays running fine, alternator doesn't get hot and the fusible link doesn't get hot. Now I'm really lost with this. What does everyone think?

Thanks

hm, i know it sounds weird but take your battery out and have it tested, if your car runs fine with it disconnected, it may be some weird fluke with the battery :dunno: that sucks man

LOL It's ok, im going to hell too. Well here is another update. I took my red top to Advace Auto Parts. They tested it. The results were it was godd but needed to be charged. So since I'm good friends with the manager, I was like I think you need to warranty it wink wink. LOL So he gave me a brand new one. I hook it up to the car, BAM!!!!!! Car ran for 20 minutes. Fusible link didn;t melt, alternator didn't smoke. My Auto Meter Volt Gauge says it's charging 15 volts. I never seen a bad battery before.

OPtima was bought out a few years back by another company, quality has suffered since then. Not to mention, Optima's tend to sit around an Autozone or Advance awhile before someone buy's them.

So now at this point, I need another harness. I got another harness from prestige mustangs. But the one they sent me is sort of different. Like this harness has a few extra connectors that my 98 harness doesn't and the IAC connector is in a different location. So i'm gonna see if they can give me a 98 harness. I even asked them if its the same and they said yes. Stupid ass. :hammer:
