Between 99-04 Cobra's, and 2001-2002 Camaro SS's, which engine would you rather have and which ones would be earier to make a lot of power?

99/01's are quite different from the 03/04's (mod-price wise).

what kind of differences are there with price and mods?
which would you prefer to have? maintainance and mod pricing considering?

The 03/04 cobras have been known to hold alot of horsepower with the stock block.......the cobra responds very well to mods that r thorwn at it.....now if u wanna do somethin crazy like throw 50psi at it, then it wont hold.....but if u go with say 20-30 psi u should be fine......id say go with the cobra because the LS1s wont hold the same power with the stock block

I agree 100% and im not saying that because im a old timer here, or that im even a mod. Its just the damn truth.......I joined a GM site a while back in hopes of learning about the LS1 cars and there was a ungodly amount of BS talk going on about mustangs and ford products in general ( even my L, and of course I took offence to that :tickedoff: ) anyway they are a bunch of pricks that hold the GM product in the higest reguard and are totaly aginst anything else. This site is not like that, yes its a mustang site, yes we are PRO ford......but we dont bash other brands and we would not give a new member with brand X a hard time just because he didnt have a stang.

Cobra's (03-04's) are very cheap to mod and return a good amount of power for your investment. Bolt-ons can push them to around 500 rwhp

Second place would be the LS, head's are cheap (good ones) intakes are cheap, stock intakes are good, only one cam to buy. My Firebird makes almost 380 to the tires through a stock exhaust on motor alone, not too shabby for 1200 dollar heads and a 400 dollar cam. Bolt ons can get you 425-450.

Bringing up the rear (sorry Daveface) would be the 96-01 Cobra's, four cams=1200 bucks. A couple intakes, all over 1k, header's are expensive, everything cost twice as much as an LS, at least. Bolt ons will hit a wall around 330-ish.

Ha ha ha. YEAH RIGHT! More Mustang bashing goes on here than it does at that "certain GM site". Everybody here worships the ALL-MIGHTY LSjoke

Actually, they hold up to 65 psi ok, it's just that the head gaskets don't, and then eventually the rods don't. But they are pretty stable all the way up to 40+ psi actually. The '03-'04 Cobra engines are actually what you would consider to be a "Built" engine from the factory. We're talking forged aluminum pistons, forged steel cranks, and forged steel H-beam rods (Made by Manley). They are incredibly stout engines, plus they have Iron blocks.

LS1 blocks are actually incredibly strong as well, there are several very high horsepower (850+) LS1 cars that have stock blocks. There's a car here in Albuquerque that had a totally stock LS1 engine (well, it had a cam and bolt-ons) with a 250 shot of nitrous that made 650 to the tires, and never had an engine failure. They are pretty impressive in their own right.

I'd still go with a Cobra engine though. Gotta love a CAI, Exhaust, some Pulleys and a Tune resulting in over 500 to the tire, with everyday driveability and reliability, not to mention decent gas mileage.
