I am using some Old a*s engine stand i borrowed and It would only allow 3 arms to bolt to the 4.6 engine because one arm would not reach no matter what I did...... Think this is OK to hold the engine?

i suggest no.

go buy a new stand for $100.00 so you dont drop and ruin a $300.00 motor.

or crush your foot.

i really want paul to chime in on this one....

I tried EVERYTHING to get the 4th arm to line up with a hole but its just too short and wont work :-(

Think i really need a new stand?

I've supporteda 302 on a stand with 3 bolts.
As long as they aren't cheap bolts (grade 8+) you'll be fine

not really. but if i said "no" and it broke your foot, you would sue me.

and im the kind of guy who trys to keep safety on top. which consists of properly holding down a 500 pound chunk of iron.

I used 4 arms on my 302 with grade 8 bolts, I'm sure 3 COULD support if position properly with good bolts, but as Chris said, I wouldn't risk it with something so heavy/expensive.

that reminds me of when tom green had his talk show, and glen humplic was on they were in time square and tom had his phone number up by a window and was gonna show the people in the studio. long story short everyone in time square saw it from the street and his phone blew up.!!

i struggled with my 4.6 as well, handz.

ill snap some pics and post them on how i did it. the trick was, for me. to remove the part of the stand that the motor bolts to. put all the brackets at their maximum setting, losely. bolt all 4 up to the 4.6, then place it back on the stand as one solid unit.

it was much easier to work with the brackets when the "rotisery" part of the jack wasnt connected to the jack itself.
