I am pulling mustang engine in 10 hours.... I have 2 Questions...

#1: Where Do I attach the Chains on the rear on the motor?

#2: Can I reuse the Auto trans bolts to mount the engine to the stand? Are they long enough?

Thanks.

#1. use the exhaust manifolds.
#2. leave teh motor on the hoist and measure them. i had to buy new bolts for mt 4.6L to fit, and they were a pain to find. buy a fist full of washers as well, incase you get "too long of bolts" and need a 1/8" spacer.

i had to go to 4 stores to find the right bolts (ace, home depot, lowels, and bell plumbing.)

they are metric. the are like 1.10m x 10 or some gibberish like that. just take one of the bolts to ace. they have a measuring tool there... i ended up getting mine from Lowels.

Can't I attach the chains somewhere else on the motor beside the exhaust manifold? Like, the rear of the motor?

Greg, easiest way to do it is to:
Go to Ace Hardware and buy eyelets - look like -------O
tighten them into the intake manifold bolt holes (i used the middle ones, with one space inbetween them)
pull engine out!

Dont attatch to the extreme front or back, as the engine will want to sway, rotate, and move around on you.

Hook up chains to a tow strap and tie them to the exhaust manifolds... I've used seat belts too (they are stronger then you think).

I also recommend pulling the motor/tranny out in one pull...

Cut off the hood to make life a bit easier and give you extra room...

Call a friend to help with the muscle work...

Pulling a motor is cake...

+1 to the exhaust manifolds, I got some brackets for free that go to the exhaust manifold studs and the dealership gave them to me. you might not be able to get them for free but they look convinient

I always took the intake off. and used the rear of the passenger head where it would bolt to the timing cover if it were on the front.... and then the atlernator bolt moutning points... done MANY 4.6s this way... more than I wanna count.

Ok, I will talk more about it in the morning because i am tired from today.

Got the engine out. Used the 2 Alternator bolts and a hole on the back of each head to pull the motor. Left the intake manifold attached.

I am using some Old ass engine stand i borrowed and It would only allow 3 arms to bolt to the 4.6 engine because one arm would not reach no matter what I did...... Think this is OK to hold the engine?
