I spent all day at my friend's shop today using his Wheelabrator shot blasting machine to clean a TON of parts. I spent three hours yesterday with my pressure washer blasting all the grime and crap off of them with 3000 psi, and the Wheelabrator took care of the rest with 150 mph steel shot. :boink: I really want one of those machines - I'm trying to find one used somewhere for maybe a few grand or something.

Anyway, now I have SHIT TON of parts ready to be smoothed out and powdercoated. Here's just the ones I blasted today (I have more in bins) -- Keep in mind, my workbench is three meters long. :thumb:

I got some FRPP shorty stainless headers used for $40 - I'll be ceramic coating these. You can also see some Ford 2.3 Turbo pulleys which I'll be doing for a good friend of mine. Also stock fox brackets.

...more turbo four stuff. Sorry for the blurry picture. Also some fox steel brackets.

Ford 2.3 Turbo valve covers. One of them is damaged and I'm going to try to fix it up a bit before I coat it. Both of these will receive some trick custom powdercoating for my friend.

Four sets of stock fox valve covers. I'll be sanding all these down and coating each of them different colors. I think I'm going to try silver, gunmetal gray, charcoal gray, and either chrome or flat black.

The fox valve covers will go through several stages of smoothing and standing as seeen below.

...and they'll end up looking something like this:

Also while I was there I ran up to Pep Boys to buy a cheap 15/16" socket. Some of you may remember that I was having trouble with my overdrive alternator pulley because it is so small that a socket doesn't fit.

Big nut, small pulley:

$4 socket sacrificed to my friend's lathe to cut about .070" off of it:

Voila! Success! ...but I probably shouldn't use my impact wrench on this... It's a tad thin. :hammer:

Today was a good day.

do you have to completely disassemble the alternator to powdercoat it black?

I am going to be selling a few sets of valve covers, and probably some brackets too. I actually have complete sets of both fox and 94-95 5.0 brackets. :) If I take into account all the time I spend to prep and coat them, it's definitely not worth it, but I enjoy doing it and I already have a job that pays the bills.

Meh - maybe it will help offset the $300 in powdercoating supplies I bought a little while back. :hammer:

Awesome! The valve covers look great as they are now- they should be mind-blowing after powdercoat!

Well, I managed to get through three complete valve covers before I broke another Black & Decker vibrating sander. That's two now. Stupid pieces of shit.

I need to buy a professional sander - something that is going to last. Anybody got any recommendations?

Anyway, here's the ones I got through. They take about three hours per set to fully prep.

Hmmm, what would you want for a set of those 94-95 brackets coated in that dark grey speckle finish? I'm gonna start putting together some stuff for the 393 or 408 that I want to do and I think those look great.
Maybe exchange on another set plus some cash?

If you're really interested, then yes - exchange plus some cash would probably work best. The amount of money would vary based on what you want done (i.e. just brackets, or brackets, timing cover, tensioner) and how much prep you want done. (i.e. just blast them clean and coat them, or spend the extra time necessary to sand everything smooth so that the finish is really nice)

Since it is a LOT of work, I wouldn't do it for less than $100. If you're interested, send me a PM.

Very interesting Paul... let me give it some thought as to what I'd like done and how. I can probably send you the parts blasted clean and pretty much ready to coat, but I might want them smoothed. If I can't do it myself I'd be willing to pay for your time as I see the results would definetly be worth it. :thumb:
I'll let you know man. :thumb:
