so i have a 96 mustang, i just got a new mac o/r h-pipe and took the cat exhuast off. it was a fight to get the nuts off on the passenger side but they came off. went to put the new one on and saw that the stud screws on the manifold were stripped. so now i have to take it in to an exhaust shop. does anyone know how much work it is to put new stud screws in, or what it would cost?

Shouldn't be too much work for them to just drill out the manifolds and put new studs in. I'd say like an hour of labor at most.

well its on the passenger side. i called today and the guy said they would use a stud retractor or something. and if that doesnt work they would have to pull the manifold off.

Its typically $15-20 per stud for replacement, but thats on a normal exhaust system. Take your exhaust manifold off, yeah right. I would make sure you ask them how much its going to be before they do it. Is there any way you can get the nut to seize on the stud and then impact the whole stud out yourself? Thats what I did, went and bought a new stud for $4. JB weld the nut to the stud and it should unscrew....or break off :wall:

so went to an exhaust shop the other day, the guy there was able to thread some screws on it but the h pipe wont tighten to the bottom of the manifold all the way because the bend in the pipe is pressing against the underbody of my car. so its not bent enough. anyone else have this problem?

are you sure you got the right mid pipe? Some manufactures specify whether or not you have 5 spd or auto... where is it rubbing? Crossmember?

that could be it, but when i first got the pipe, the o2 sensor bung up by the manifold only had a half bead of weld around it, buddy caught it just before we put it on, so we took it back and they put a proper weld on it. so i'm guessing that there might be something wrong with the pipe but i'll check and see if it's for an auto.
