I recently came accross a few Explorer Intake/head combos that I can get for a reasonable price. I was curious on two things:

Is there any interest in these (heads complete, cant guarantee that you will not have to go through them)?

What would those who would be interested in them pay for them?

I have a number in my head to what I feel would be fair to sell them at which includes my time for removal as well as the cost of the heads and intake combo......Not trying to make a buck off the forum, just trying to see if anyone would be interested in getting them....

We don't allow feeler ads my friend.. My advice is you should ask this question in the 94/95 5.0 specific section. Actually, I'll move it for you now.

While you're at it, grab the water pumps, timing chain cover and EDIS8 setup (harmonic damper with crank sensor ring, crank sensor, module, cam position sensor and brackets).

I'm pretty sure the water pump and timing chain cover are reverse rotation parts and while FRPP is making new standard rotation timing chain covers, the SN95/Thunderbird setup is a bit of an orphan. I've seen what age and galvanic corrosion did to the timing chain covers on 289s in first generation mustangs. As SN95s get older, good condition replacements will become hard to find.

The ignition is just cool and works with a few aftermarket fuel injection setups.

I pull 3 bar gt40s off at the junkyard and sell them for 200 bux all the time. The intakes are hard to sell for 50 dollars so I don't mess with them. I always reccomend people go thru them at a machine shop. It wouldn't be nice to sell them and tell people to just bolt them on. One head on my turbo motor has a small crack in it. It took a basic sleeve job to fix it.

P heads have no resale value here. So I don't bother.

I know the sn95 timing cover and all accessories and brackets is worth money, but you have to get it cheap to be worth it.

Thanks!

Are they p heads
I believe all of the Explorer heads are P heads

I can get all of that stuff as long as I have easy access to everything. It all depends on where the explorer/Merc's are in the yards that I go to. I am not a fan of used ignition setups, especially when I have no first hand knowledge if it is a good unit.

I know on one of the other Mustang Forums that I go on they have some value. As far as the head condition, on a lot of the vehicles that I would be pulling these from, it will say "cracked head" ect on it. With that being said, if I were to sell them, I would not be making any promises as to if they are "good" or not unless the buyer wants me to take them to an engine shop to have them tested. This is more about passing along parts to help someone do their cheap build.

I have a strong relationship with a few of the people around here (almost 20 years) who run a few of the yards, which is why I am able to find people from here the parts they are looking at for less than what they can get them elsewhere. Unlike you, I am not looking to fund any projects, as my job pays me more than enough to do what I want. Any roadblocks to my build progress comes from my future wife, who reminds me that we have xyz bills coming up, lol.

The early exploder heads were 3 bar gt40 heads and the larter model were 4 bar gt40P heads

before '01 were 3 bar gt40 after '01 were gt40p. I think 01 was the switch over.
I would have to check the vin numbers or the epa stickers then......

Think you could beat 80 for a gt40 intake and 250 for questionable heads?

Possibly, depends on what kind of deal I could get from the yard.

This is why my explorer intake is becoming a shelf queen. I've put way too much work into it to sell now.

Actually, 96 and early 97 explorers were 3 bar Gt40s. Late 97 on were Gt40p. IIRC, there was no 5.0 in 2002.

jfyi nightmare, I can get the heads for under 100 bucks( but id never sell an unknown condition item and we all know why exploders are in the yard), and I don't screw people if that's were ur little comment above was about..if you don't think its fair to pay 250 bucks for a fully cleaned and painted explorer upper and lower, 24lb injectors, 70mm mafs, iac resctitor plate and new gaskets go piece it together for cheaper...and I don't want to be shown some crusty non cleaned non egr intake either...I put time into my stuff and test and clean every part.everybody who has bought a set from me has been more than happy, even had a few send me pics of it installed and thnx, man? why you and ur trio ride me so hard?..

Last set I pulled was a build date of Mar 97 according to door sticker (2 weeks ago), GT40P heads, internal EGR intake without the drilled port for the ACT (is that the right one?) sensor. Here the GT40P heads seem to go slower and cheaper than GT40 but there is some interest.

people always cry about what todo with that act, simply relocate into the intake tube..a little extending of the wire for me took care of it, and I even threaded the act into the intake box

Yeah, that one seems to be a non-issue as far as I'm concerned, less things to plug if you want to move it anyway :)

actually, I probably could sell them for less. Only thing that I would do is pull them. A lot of the intakes out there are clean. I am not going to take the time to "polish" them or paint them up. That is part of the reason why I can keep my costs lower. I got a Trickflow upper and lower intake for my 88 gt for 250, considering the source of where I am getting them from, then they should cost less. If someone wants me to take the time to clean them up, then so be it, as long as they are willing to pay for it. My time is money to me. I get mustang parts for members here if they want them, and I will charge them what the yard charges me, plus shipping. Considering how few and far inbetween Mustangs and the like are these days, that is a bargan.

By the way, there should be no checking of an upper and lower intake needed, as it ingests air into the engine, nothing magical about that, it is the heads that someone might want to have a shop go through, and I doubt that you can do that in your living room.
