So the other day I get pulled over for window tint. I know the limit here is 70%, which is retarded, but mine are 5% so i got a $130 ticket that I don't really wanna pay. I've always been told that cops CANNOT give tickets for window tint if it's a first offense, but you get a fix-it ticket, and the next time it happens they'll write you a real one. Is this true?
Even if it's not, is it worth my time to just go to court in the hopes that the cop won't even show up? This swine seriously turned around to pull me over, he had nothing better to do that day.

varies state by state. not knowing where you are doesn't help. i would look into the actual law or even call a local attorney or legal office to see what the regulation is.

if you go to court, what are you trying to prove? unless you bring a dated photo of the car showing the window tint was removed, you'll look like a jackass and get hit with the full amount. and waste and entire day

I would have to agree. You might be able to get away with it if you change it, you will probably get pulled over again if you do not since the cop has yer number/car in his head now so its worth a try since you would have to do it anyway.

here they give fix-it tickets as far as i know, but if you want to keep the tint you're better off just paying the ticket since getting your windows tinted usually costs more than $130.

in all my year tint window, when ever you do 5% , u are asking for trouble, 20%25% ( you cant tell different between 20% or 25% ) is the best safe tint, still illegal but it safe, its same % as back of the SUV or truck factory % tint. I got pull over same day i got 5% tint, and it 12am at night. Change it to 20 -25% tint, and try roll your window down when ever you saw a cop, unless it raining .

Another way for the goverment to rob people off their hard earned money, cops drive around with the darkest tint possible yet they are allowed because the police is above the law these days.

Thats why you get it done at a professional tint shop so you get a certificate saying that it is leagal. Pretty sure all licensed shops have to provide that information. When I got the windows done on my STI at my freinds shop I got one stating the level of the tint and that it meets state guidelines.

Those laws are mostly there for officer safety, with tint too dark you can't tell if someone is readying a weapon as you approach the vehicle. that's why they have them.

Not even worth fighting, since you don't get points. If I were you, I would remove it and put lighter tint on at least. The shops around here won't do 5% unless you pay cash because they don't want it to be traceable.

Very well put but i thought you were allowed to have 5 on all windows minus the front and windshield?

Tint laws vary from area to area.

Around here the darkest you can have is 15% in the back, 28% up front and a dark strip on the windshield.

5 is not allowed in any state as far as I know.

i know in tx if you have a receipt showing you fixed it, then you will only have to pay court costs.

The front is the most important, obviously. Most places don't really care about the back windows, especially on mustangs when there's really not much of a window anyways.
