Well . . . I got the flu. But, I can't just lay around. So, I'm fabricating my aluminum wing and doing my new hood.

Here's a pic of the wing. It's going to be a wrap-around style. The cardboard represents the part that I will fab up tomorrow, but the design is still a work in progress.

Re: Fabricating While I Have the Flu

I have a lightweight pin-on stock height hood from VFN. I'm going to fiberglass the hood scoop in so it's all one piece and do a scoop tray to direct the airflos into the top of my throttle body.

Here's a pic of a wing that's similar to what I'm doing:

A table saw, a cutoff wheel, and a rivet gun. Old school . . . lol.

I might have to use the scroll saw tomorrow for the side pieces. 8)

Re: Fabricating While I Have the Flu

nice! thats how i learned to do everything. i restore classic stangs with my dad on the side, and any patch panel that isnt remade by the aftermarket we fabricate ourselves. i used hand shears, air cut-off wheels, and a mig welder. i love metal fabrication!

can't wait to see how it turns out

and can't wait til i get to do some stuff to my own stang

Re: Fabricating While I Have the Flu

I'm pretty new at fabrication. I learned a lot when we built the car by watching a master fabricator do his magic.

It's something I need to get better at doing, and the only way to get better at it is to do it.

Re: Fabricating While I Have the Flu

fabricating it self is pretty basic. its aquiring the skills to run everything that takes some time. That wing is looking pretty nice though. the worst kind of stuff you can do when your sick though is galvonized steel welding. i had a bad stomach flu once, i had to run back and forth to the bathroom to throw up.

You sound like me. Working through the flu. Instead of letting the flu work through you. Can't wait to see finished pics of that wing and hood

I'm using .080 5052. I could have used .063 6061 T6, but the .080 just felt a little more substantial and didn't weigh much more.

Sucks having the Flu. But the wing should look good, and help keep the car a bit more stable.

very true. i have wasted soo much metal by making and remaking the same peice over and over until i thought it tooked right.

how are you going to do the curves on the end of the wing? just by hand?

I'm going to find a piece of pipe, or some other solid round surface, and use that to bend them. As far as the 90* bend, I'll probably wait for my neighbor to get home and use his brake.

what kind of fabrication do you do? that suck that you hate it. I do a lot of custom fab work, a lot of stainless steal work, tig welding and machining and i love it. its really rewarding when you see some custom stainless work you did for a semi truck and then u see it cruising around.

We do EVERYTHING!! It can be from pharmaceutical pieces to huge reactor cages for PECO.

Looks like our shops do a lot the same kind of work, however i usually get stuck doing all of the experimental stuff, and the custom fab work for customers. i like it better.
