My first boyfriend had a '99 GT, it was one of the first cars I ever drove and completely the reason why I'm crazy about Mustangs now! I'll never forget the first time I drove it. It was Halloween and we had gone to a party. My bf was drinking so I had to drive home. That car was his baby so I was freaking out the whole way worrying I was gonna mess something up. I'll never forget though, thinking the lights were automatic. We were getting on the interstate when he realized the lights weren't on, I was freaking out trying to turn them on so he leaned over and pulled the knob. He pulled it too hard and it popped off and he just tossed it in the backseat. I started relaxing after that because he explained that everything on a Mustang breaks haha, he was right! Eventually he sold it for a Camaro (trader! lol), and recently the car went back up for sale. If I had had the money, I definitely would've bought it! That car was special. Maybe one day it'll go back up for sale, I feel bad for it because it's been in bad hands since he sold it. :(

I kinda got a similar story to yours. Went partying with a friend, he had a few & I had none so I became the DD. I don't remember the year of it, but it was a maroon colored fox body LX. Faded paint, primered hood and the primer was coming off the front bumper so it was half grey, half yellow. May not have been pretty, but that 5.0 with a 5-speed behind it was great! Knew I had to replace the s-10 ASAP

mustangs have there own sense of pride IMO when you driving them, even riding im them gives me goose bumps, my dad got me into cars as far back as i can remember and he had camaros, corvettes, and many others but the maroon foxbody he had always make smile and the other cars never really did that... i love my mustangs and enjoy drive them and enjoy sharing that with other mustang lovers. i take pride in mustangs and i will always have one sitting in the shop :)

My first mustang experience came about when I was 10. My cousin had an 82 maroon GT (5.0/5 spd) with t tops. I used to love the car. He took me for a ride in it one day and decided to light the tires up for 6 blocks. i was hooked.

My best friend growing ups dad had a black one that was identical to my cousins and we used to beg his dad to take us cruising in it haha

When I was in college my buddy had a 93 fox body LX 5.0 and he didnt have a license so he used to make me drive it all the time. We did some dumb shit in that car haha.

Thanks everyone! And thanks for sharing the stories!! It's great to hear how everyone got started. You're so right miss2slo! Just like the horses, the cars have the same sense of pride. I hope I always have a Mustang. Other cars definitely aren't the same!

haha it was a great night! i remember when i was 12, my best friend's cousin had a t-top foxbody. it had huge speakers in the back and no backseat. we went riding with him and his friend all the time and had to squish in the back. it was the most painful experience, but so much fun!!

I currently own the first one I ever drove, took me 10 yrs of beggin my parents to sell it to me but what the hell did they expect to happen bringing home a nice new 94 gt when I was 18? First time I took it out of course being 18 I wanted to open it up a little bit and see what it could do. We were at an intersection that was a strange Y-shaped and I was on a smaller road with a stop sign trying to get into a highway. When a spot opened up I got on it and the tires didn't even begin to hook up..... We fishtailed into the entersection and I can still clearly remember looking straight down the center line, the front half now in the other lane and the back half in my lane and a yellow corvette was comming towards us.... The next thing I remember was shifting into 3rd, palms still sweaty and my girlfriend and her best friend were as speechless as me. All that I could think to say was "OOOOPS", her best friend then noticed she must have dropped her scrunchy(hair thingy) out the window as she couldn't find it and I took it easy from then on.... We laugh about it now but I really can't remember correcting to get out of it but I am also pretty sure I never let off of it, just got lucky it didn't become more.

jesus I just realized that I have been driving this car now for half of my life, just clicked over 36 yrs old on my odometer......... old old old...........

i own my GT i have had it for almost five years. i was 21 when i bought her. i loved them dumb imports at the time. i had a 96 talon TSI with 400hp. but i was always a ford guy/mustang guy in my heart. i was driving thourgh this small town late at night with my best friend n i passed this small little car dealer ship. n the first thing that came out of my mouth was hey a mustang. so we stopped n started to look it over under the street lamps. n as i ran my hand across the body lines i knew it right then there that i had to have this mustang everything about it was perfect the color the v8 the 5spd this was the car i had always wanted. the next day i went back to the dealer ship with my TSI. as i pulled in i took a second look at my soon to be mustang. n out came the dealer he could see me coming a mile away. we stood there n talked about the car for a little bit, n after a minute or two he asked me if i wanted the keys. n with that i said hell yeah like a 16 old boy getting his parents keys for the first time. so we drove off the lot n got about three miles down road. at this point i have a huge smile on my face. even tho this car was bone ass stock i was in love. we pulled up to stop sing, the car sales man looks over at n says why dont you open her up. with that i dumped the clutch smoked the tires through first and spun them through second. after that i back off a little bit n shifted into third. i took a deep breath looked over a the sales man n said " lets head back to the lot n fill out the paper work, im ready to get out of my import and back into American muscle." After that it was all history i love my mustang hell its a part of my family and someday it will be my kids mustang.

My story

My first mustang wasn't as good of a story. It was just a 1997 V6 my father's friend was selling for $2500 and being 17 at the time I was just happy to say I have a mustang! I owned that car for 8 years up to recently when I bought my newest love  I now own a 1998 GT that has a interesting story. I live in Arlington, TN which is about 20 minutes outside of Memphis. About 2 years ago in our grocery store parking lot sat this car for sale. I instantly fell in love took one of the flyers off the windshield and went home to struggle if I should seriously buy it. I made the hard choice of waiting, due to I was paying out of pocket for Nursing school and needed the money for tuition more. Well, This past summer I was in the position to buy another car and looked and looked. I hopped on craigslist one day and saw this mustang in Boonesville MS (no joke) and it looked exactly like the car I saw 2 years prior. I called the guy and he didnt have the title with him to confirm it but i decided to make the 2 hours drive to look at it anyway. When I got there the title confirmed "Arlington, TN" it was the very same car :) It is just good looking now as it was then. I am absolutely loving it. :headbang:

good stories...back in high school one of my best buddies got a 92gt I then got a 91 hatch because I loved it so much before we knew it me and my close buddies had 5 foxbodys (all really clean) and 2 z28s. Lets just say there were many good times when you and all your close friends owned fast cars. Miss those days, they now all own trucks...besides me. Wish I had pics
