Ok guy Im looking at the 351 swap not a huge one just for fun and a limited budget..
These are the things i think i need ( I know there are pages on everything just stating what i know for sure so far )
351 (90s)
oil pan and pick up
28oz balancer and flywheel
looking at getting rid of smog dont know about ac but still on the table. Will i need different underdrives and deleteing kits i think the 302 stuff works the smae just a different belt.
LT headers and midpipe

I want to use my 95 cobra gt40 heads i know i need to drill them to 1/2 bolts or get step down bolts?
Im finding the PP 351 upper and lower intake with their 70 mm tb should work good with the 70 mm mass air that is stock for the cobra
still going to use the 24lb injectors

I know i might have missed some stuff if you know fill me in please
Here is my main thing
FLOW NUMBERS

GT40 heads
the PP 70 MM TB and UPPER & LOWER
I know i might need to get a spacer to match the 70 mm to the intake but im not sure
I will also like to port match the runners to the heads with a dremmel

After I get the flow number i will calculate what i would want for a cam and spring kit that would use the limited but available air flow from the heads and incoming air..
Im not looking for much heck around 300rwhp would be cool and 350 torque

I have built my car with quality parts good for that power not a lot ton over it..
I know ill be having to get a tune.

So i dont want BS i know about all these other ideas about getting a set of heads on my cobra and intake and being about that power and it would be cheaper and all the blah blah.. I plan on doing a nice 408 in the future and would like to get a swap going now so i can measure what i want from street fun and DD.. Plus it helps with getting exhaust parts, balancer, ect already instead of buying more 302 stuff that will not fit later. I dont want 600 bucks in exhaust i have to sell for a loss when i can get it now and slowly build it up.

Thank you for looking and any input you have :eek:ccasion14:

I would suggest better flowing heads/intake for 351c.i because look @ the gt40 headed 351 in the ford lightning and 95 cobra r even that was only 240 and 300 crank hp so with some mods / bolt ons with the gt40 heads/ stuff with a cam you can prob meet your goal of 300rwhp and a nice amount of stroker 350rwtq so might work for your goal, but it will not be near its full potential it will be chokeing begging for better h/c/i

Putting GT40s on a 351 is a waste. A 351 is 100 pounds +/- heavier than a 302 block. So what little power you will gain with the increase in stroke will be negated by the increase in weight. I would suggest either put a cam and port your cobra intake while you build the 408 on the side.

Well see i can get a 351 for nothing.. Im too far away for any kind of porting work esp anyone that has some knowledge of mustangs in the first place. Looked at even trying to get my gt40s ported but still with the shipping costs was going closer to 800 bucks. Im at a stand off here im looking at spending another 1500 but i wont get new heads. If i buy new heads ill go 351 size and then im at the opposite end not enought for too much head..

AFR 205s would be ideal on that 351, it would be verry noice.

yes they are good but thats way bigger then his goal / budget lol read what he said about money and would be happy with 300hp,he doesnt need 205cc heads on a 351 stroker to get to 300rwhp or 300 crank hp lol thats more like try adding another 100-200 hp to that more like 400-450+rwhp which is what 450-500 crank hp lol

all he needs is a h/c/i stock 5.0 or 5.0 parts / gt40 heads on a 351 for his goal, Would I do that? prob not it wont be near its potential but more then enough for what he was asking for power wise

I know the gt40s dont flow the greatest but i just have a few more months of summer and i hope to have a new job so this winter i can research what i want to do more.. If i were going big i wouldnt be able to use half the parts i have already but looking at what i do have i think i can get it done for a low enough price that it will be a fun DD. I would love some afrs but when a set of heads might cost the same as slapping in the 351 with the gt40s. I know if i can get a cam that can use the limited airflow i could get the most out of it have fun and then slowly build my project engine..

Your just going to be waisting money and at the end wish you would of done it diffrently. just save up and get a turbo all the power you want. Spend less than building a 351.

If you're not going for a monster naturally aspirated combo, the 351 is a waste. Just build a 302.

302 parts make 302 power. The big windsor swap is annoying and not worth the effort if you're going to put cheap parts on it.

Oh, and I've had a 351, 418, and 422 inch motors in '94 GTs so this is from personal experience.

Paul.
