My first notion is to buy some arp head studs and upgrade the head gaskets. I have stock heads on my engine. What would be a good alternative to the oe-type head gaskets? I'm not shooting for the tens on a stock motor, but I want it to live for a little while. Also, if I build a new engine, can the head studs be carried over?

ARP includes specification on their bolt/stud stretch. You can usually get 2-3 uses out of them. On the stock motor, you won't make enough power to need anything more than OEM gaskets.

if you really want the best Cometic makes IMO the best gaskets but you aren't going to pickup some without dropping a few pennies. for head gaskets you're looking at about $130 (A HEAD) i paid around 260 for my head gaskets through them they are a very nice MLS set and honestly they are the best gasket makers around but you get what you pay for..

By the time you buy oe type head gaskets and the intake gaskets, your nearly out 160 right there. Blow those and start over from scratch, spending nearly what it would cost to do it right the first time. Which I prefer to do. Cometic for the win!!

You won't be making enough power to need those. Or the ARP stuff. When you build your motor, then it's a good idea, because you need to purchase new head bolts anyway.

I'm being serious. I wouldn't recommend you running an Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump either.

I value your opinions :eek:ccasion14: I also removed the a1000 idea from memory, that would be overkill for my needs. The general consensus advised a walbro 255 and possibly a T-Rex or the equivalent inline pump if necessary.

My engine builder put it to me like this: you must decide which you'd rather happpen, a blown rod or a blown head gasket. The head gaskets act as a fuse.

Now I understand. He suggests titan ics or felpro graphites. He also says he's had zero problems with his 1011-1s in four years in various combos (all turbo or 13.5:1 comp type motors)

look into the AFM Big pump kit, it's better than the Trex and would work better for you that is what i'm running

cometics have seal issues (coolant) and i wouldn't use a mls gasket unless your pushing over 20 lbs and your tune is 100% on. you will not blow a mls gasket you will eat a piston. imo the felpro mls is the way to go, they seal better and are less then 100 bucks for the pair. i use them as so does my engine builder who is going more then 200 mph in the 1/8 mile with his turbo pro mod.

as for your motor pickup a set of felpro 9333 pt1s

they will seal great for the blower and are still soft enough to act as a fuse should you detonate with the blower. im sure you would rather lose the head gasket then a piston or a bearing
