I have the quick-disconnect tool for the lines where they feed into the filter. The line from filter --> engine comes off easily but the line from tank-->filter does not. Fought the F'n thing for half an hour with the Auto Zone tool (junk, come to find out) and it wouldn't budge. Any ideas? I really didn't want to get too rough with the lines and break them. I relived fuel pressure before starting by running it without the fuel pump fuse until it died and removing the gas cap.

And, anyone know where I could find a set of cheap used headlights? Restoring them wouldn't bother me. They just need to be the 01-04 style with the black housing.

To finish releasing pressue you need to unscrew the schrader valve in the engine bay and poke it with a screwdriver. Might be located on the fuel rail. It looks like a tire stem cap (black plastic cap).

Make sure you cover it with a towel when you poke it because fuel might squirt out.
And yep @ Saint. The 94-95 has plastic clips.
The 96+ has actual connectors.

The clips were used through '97. Long-timers here might remember when we called '98 the Bastard Year. No dash clock, 10 more HP, different style fuel system (no more clips), different exhaust hanger setup incompatible with earlier years, etc.

There's no Schrader valve 98+. I've done this job on 97 and down Fords (including 2 Grand Marquis) without releasing pressure at the valve, just pulling the fuel pump fuse and removing the gas cap.

$90 for new headlights is a damn good deal. Going to the Englishtown swap meet at Raceway Park next month, CJ always has a big booth there. Better put $ aside I guess.

=[ the dash clock... may it RIP. I love it. I almost got a 98, but couldn't do it because of the empty flat dash lol

I had no idea that there was no dash clock. That sucks. Meanwhile I was thinking for like 2 years I wish I just had a 98 for some extra hp lol.....I like my clock.

now on my 97 and old 98 i noticed that before i start installing the tool into the fuel filter if i push the lines toward the filter really hard then while holding it slide the autzone junker in there then they slide right off? did this right before my vacation to bagram and it was the original filter! from 100k ago!
i use the same technique for an wire harness clips push them together hard as hell then grab the tab and pull free.

clips aside is the 04 gt different? i never had a new edge so aint played with them much.

my 98 also have a valve, i did the fuel filter change, side in fuel disconect tool, press it toward the filter and it should come right off. get ready for fuel in the face/hair/ and some time eyes too.

Psh.. I love my 98. If it's not a 94-95 I own a 98. Personally I'd rather have quick connects. The clips suck

I think I see what I F'd up based on what you guys posted. If I read it right, I need to push the tool in, and at the same time push the line in a little then pull them apart? I just tried to straight shove the line off with the tool so that must be where I fucked up. Gonna try it yet again later this week when I'm off work.

yes push the tool in toward the filter, you will feel it when you do it right . wear glass, every dam time im doing fuel filter, i either drink a little fuel, or over my hair , all over my hand and arm. take off the fuel cap to release some pressure
