Fuel pump may be going out.

I've been having starting issues lately where it would crank and crank but never fire. I think it may be related to the fuel pump. Turning the key to the on position without starting it; sometimes I hear the pump whine like its kicking on and sometimes I don't. I was wondering if this could be a sign that the pump is failing. But I've tried starting it when I didn't hear it whine and it started so I can't really come to a conclusion. Also, I've had the car fire and then die immediately which seems to me like a fuel issue. Any ideas?

Definitely sounds like fuel. Have you changed your fuel filter lately? I think that the specs say 60k on the fuel filter replacement but I could be wrong about that. If you've let your fuel level get really low then you may want to run fuel system cleaner through it first. Start cheap!!! Make sure that you do your best to diagnose your problem prior to repairing. Hope this helps.

I dont think its a fuel issue, but you need to scan to see if there are any stored faults, if there are seewhats going on. Definatly can be an issue with a cam/crank sensor that is bad or going bad.

Listen to Duff sir! If anyone knows about 2V it's him. Get your car scanned and go from there.

I know this tread is old but I am having similar issues with my car. It takes forever to start lately, however recently i have been turning the key to the on position twice before i start it and then it fires right up. I can also hear the fuel pump when I turn to the on position. Could my issue be the fuel pump or what? I think my battery is on its way out also but thats another issue. If it is something with my fuel would a fuel system cleaner do me any good? And if so what brand is best? Thanks!

crank sensor takes readings from crank to pcm. from pcm to pcm relays in conjuction with Key On Operation opens the fuel pump relay. fuel relay makes the pump in hot cycle. the fuel pump relay provides constant 12v signal. with this in mind

*fuel pump relay sticking in operation.
*crank sensor is retarded.
*Pcm timing parameters off sync. (usually with tune and/or aftermarket cams, cam sensor)

+1 you can also test fuel pressure..id change the fuel filter(being the cheapest) and try. if not check the cam and crank sensor. intermittent(sp?) cranking can be the main problem by these failing
