Just out of general curiosity. I know that when you put a turbo on a car, if driven decently, can have little effect on your gas mileage. Ive even heard of people claiming they saw an increase. But does the same go for superchargers? I know superchargers don't make boost all the time which would lead you to think economy would stay the same, but the engine does have to turn that big ol' blower belt at all times. So, enlighten me. How do superchargers effect fuel economy?

honestly you have to think about it this way.. fuel upgrades in themselves will change how your car acts.. you can drive a sc or tc car without hitting boost BUT depending on how much boost you are pushing fuel injectors, fuel pump upgrades all pay a part.. the thing that would make a turbo car better is running a boost switch and like an sct 4 bank switch and changing the psi when you wanted to. Though i have read articles about installing a wastegate on a s/c it does raise the amount of heat that a s/c will put out.

So more or less it just depends on the overall modifications you have?

with a s/c you will just about always loose mpg, as you stated, it has to turn the s/c regardless whether your boosting or not.. think of it this way, is your mpg affected if you use the a/c or not? with a turbo there is nothing to turn, as it is run off the engine waste (exhaust)... if tuned properly and nothing else is changed, then your mpg should not be affected, if it is, then it will be very little.. maybe a mpg or 2...

fuel mileage will go up with a blower as long as you are just cruising. while the bypass valve will be open the blower is still helping the motor breathe. i get close to 27 mpg with mine even with the a/c on cruising.
