G-Tech meter???

Has anyone seen or heard anything about this G-Tech Pro Meter RR? I think it would be pretty cool to have so I can see if mods actually make more HP, torque, or make me faster. But I do not understand how the meter could possibly recieve this information through the cigarette lighter.

It claims to be able to give information such as : Horsepower, Torque, 0-60 times, 0-100 times, 60ft. times, 1/8th mile times, 1/4 mile times (up to 1/100th of a second accuracy), 0-100-0 time, it has a shift light, a digital RPM gauge, it can tell you your handling G's, it can hold up to 30 runs for your reference, its got a PC data download so you can view all that info. on the computer and replay your runs...all for $299.99. It sounds too good to be true, which means it probably is, right? I might just get it for the fact that if I am not satisfied I can return it within 30 days, plus it comes with a 1 year warranty. Any thoughts?

I'm gonna have to wait for more responses, and do some more research before I make my decision because I want to get longtubes with an h-pipe next, but it would be cool to have this before to see how much of a difference they make...hmmm...thanks for your quick and positive response AaRoN...king post whore...lol

I've never used one, first off.

I have seen several mag articles (they sell ad's, so they are biased), and read of people using it, then going to the track and it being very accurate, except for roll out.

They way it works, is with an accurate vehicle weight, it levels it's self, then, on acceleration, some fluid in a tube, shoots to the back, how much and how far, tell's it how many "g's" you are pulling. That info combined with vehicle weight, gives it 0-60, 0-100, 1/4, etc through math.

While I have never owned one, I have driven a car with one. They are the real deal. I took a test drive with the original iteration of the G-Tech and it was really cool. You could cycle through so many different parameters. I'm also just a sucker for gauges, and having all of that information available was sweet.

I would buy it, they are awesome. If you get bored with it, there's nothing stopping you from selling it on eBay for nearly what you paid for it, they have great resale. I want to get one, but I heard that the G-Tech Pro (with the full screen) is the best, it might be the same as the RR you're talking about. Either way, buy the best one, then you'll have something unique in your car.

Yea, i think i'm gonna buy one, especially since I was looking at getting a short throw shifter and a shift light. This is alot cooler than any shift light, plus it has one built in. Then i'll have a reason for having a huge guage with a shift light on it. IMO the huge tach with shiftlights are "tach"y lol

I've thought about getting on... but I don't like wires running all over my car, is there any way to hook it up without it being plugged into the cigarette lighter hole?

duh09 - I would imagine you could probably run the wire behind the dash and either plug it into the cigarette lighter by bringing the wire up and plugging it in, or maybe even splicing into the wires for the cigarette lighter itself. But i'm no electrical engineer.

That might work, but I dunno... it just sorta seems weird that the Cigarette lighter has the RPM and iunno, maybe it wouldnt work? It def wont work on my car right now, the cigarette lighter hole doesnt work. Need to fix that...

Well since the HP, torque, and times use a mathematical calculation based on the accuracy of the vehicle weight entered, and the accuracy of its sensors. I would guess that it uses another mathematical calculation to figure out the RPMs based on the amount of energy that the alternator is putting out?

I am considering purchasing one of these but am puzzled as to how it can be accurate. 1/8 mi, 60' times and 0-60 times are what I am mostly interested in.

How does this thing know how far you have traveled? Does it have GPS?
How does suspension factor into the calculations? If it has to used on a level surface or self leveled, how does it compensate for a hard or soft suspension setup?
The user has to calibrate the unit to the engine's RPM. I have heard stock tachs are not dead on, however, I have not checked my to verify. So, how accurate can this thing be?

What do you guys have to say?

i have the old first gen unit and its fun to toy with but this one does not self level......thats a pain.

as far as calibration goes, mine just plugs in the cig lighter

I got the pro rr for christmas last year and its real easy to set up and use. It is as accurate as can be with using a g force meter stuck on your windshield. I hard wired mine to my ignition wire so it turns on and off with the car. The coolest part is the shift lights. If it werent for the shift lights i would probably take it down by now because how many times can you 1/4 mile race on the back roads before your next big mod. All in all its a cool addition if you are a gauge and lights addict such as myself.

I am easily amused and could spend countless hours of my life recording info from this thing if it is accurate.

I would do that except that would get costly (monetarily and time). Also I would use it in multiple vehicles.


I am considering purchasing this device to provide data for me to calculate averages and make comparisons. How does this thing know how far it has traveled though? I do not see a mention of GPS and the manual does not mention input of drivetrain data, so I do not understand how it knows. :dontknow:

Have you done any research on it..maybe see the reviews. Sounds like most of the dudes in here that have it really enjoy it..

Go to google and see if you can find some good reviews on it.
