Not sure where to post this as i dont see the General Tech forum anymore.

Anyways, my car doesn't take more than 6 gallons of gas now. When i brought the car it would always click off @ 11 gallons and take no more.

Now like i said above the gas pump clicks off @ 6 gallons. I tried forcing gas in by holding the handle only to get gas spilling on the ground and overflowing.

Has anyone had this issue before? I haven't touched my gauges so im lost.

When the pump clicks off @ 6 gallons my gas gauge is only in the middle. If i run it down to the RED line it only fills up with 6 gallons.

So either there is something wrong with my gas system or my car really has 14 gallons in but only showing half of that :BangHead:

Any Ideas!!??

ever try driving it past the red empty line since you have had this problem? just to see if the gauge is malfunctioning is some weird way and you may actually have more gas than your gauge is telling you

or someone put a shitload of sand/suger/something in there but I would guess that the sender or the gauge is probably bad.

Sounds like the vent tube is f'd up. Bad vent tube = gas won't hardly go in after half full.

I used to have this funky thing filling up in the old car were I couldn't use Exxon pumps for the same reason, it would click within seconds like it was full. if i used shell or any other it would pump fine.

what about a bad fuel sending unit... it tells the gauge how much gas is in the tank...

If that were the case what I said would work. He may find after empty he can still go 200 miles lol

i had this happen on my hyundai, the vent line had softened at some point and sealed itself shut so when you fill it would would pressure the tank and hit the check valve in the pump. i had to remove the handle and hold it 1/2 way out and I could fill it slowly. if you're getting it to overflow putting it in slowly there is another issue. but look into changing the vent tube 1st, should be pretty cheap and straight forward.
