I have a 95 GT with an M code axle, I am going to upgrade this week. It is a 5 speed car, mostly around town cruiser, the longest ride I have taken in it was to Livermore from San Jose, and I doubt if I'd go much farther than Monterey. I want it to launch hard. At this point with the 2.73's it will fry tires quickly out of first and into second, I want to reduce the loss of traction and gain a more torquey launch. I read on american muscle website that the 4.10 is the one to run, and I can get new FRPP 4.10's w/install kit cheap. Others tell me 3.73's would be better, but I don't know, myself. Could anyone here tell me what would make this thing take off strong and not just spin em? I have great tires, and good suspension, It just burns em off, I am sure from the tall gears. Thank you in advance! I also could use advice on a speed-cal device? or whatever it will take to correct the speedo? Thanks again!

I want it to scare my friends (and Me as well)! Neck snapper. 3.73's? I am trying to understand if the shorter gears will reduce the tire spin and increase the slam-you-in-your-seat effect?

You will get all of that. I just went from 2.73's to 3.73's and the car blows the tires out thru 3rd gear. I couldn't imagine it with 4.10's.

3.73's for sure. my friend has a 5 speed car with 4.10's and first gear goes to about 6mph. personally i put 3.73's in my 5 speed car and its plenty to turn you're friends into bobble heads.

3:73 and 4:10 will increase that tire spin? more torque = more tire fry? it will get the neck to snap more with either over the 2:73. engine rpm at all speeds will be highest of three at a given wheel speed with the 4:10.

I am going with H&R springs and tokico blue shocks, camber plates and a bump steer kit, that should do it, I hope. I have heard people raving about their love of their 4.10's, I just don't want to have a useles first gear. I looked at the T5 gear ratios and I'd have a very high final drive in first with the 4.10's, it would launch hard but run out of rpm at 30-35 mph, I don't want to have to shift that soon. I digress, I think 3.73 may be the correct choice for me. I already have to feather the clutch to get it to hook up. It will take some practice and some real good tires to do what I want it to.

front or rear? upper or lower? both? all? That is a more expensive process, might take some time for me. Unless I can do my own springs- I could save a few hundred bucks. Has anyone here done their own springs?

Your rear tires are the ones that spin when you take off so if you just upgrade the front suspension and leave the rear alone you are going to have the same problem

rear control arms. atleast lowers. a gear install will be more expencive unless you are going to do it your self. 200 gears im guessing about 500+ for labor.

I am getting the gears and install kit for 160. If I want 4.10's. But, you are right about labor. 120 an hour at the rear end shop out here. wow. American muscle seems to have a pretty good deal on uppers and lowers. Bottom line for me is I am gonna have to wait and stack parts. Get it all at once. Thanks, guys, I am learning alot. I do have a question, if you swap the front shocks to coilovers does that eliminate the other springs? Seems like a good way to loose weight, but how do they feel?

Just put the 4.10's in and be done. 3.73's with a 5 speed put me through the trap at 5300 rpm with a 26" ET Street.

3:73s for a 5 speed and 4:10s for an auto

4.10's for an auto....not neccessarily.

I have 3.73's and my car runs at 2000 rpm at 50mph so when I am on the freeway and i'm keeping up with traffic at 65-70ish I am just suckin up gas like crazy. It all depends on how the transmission is setup.

3.73's and my internal gearing (changed to a wide ratio gear set) give me a first gear of 4.41. My car is obnoxious leaving from a stop..

Agreed, my auto is running 3:73 and is also poor on fuel on motorways, the revs are a bit high for my liking.
My internal gearing is stock and overall is way higher than i thought it would be.

I bought the eibach pro kit today, am putting them in inthe AM. The thing I noticed about my car with the 2.73's is that it like's to be in 4th on the freeway, till I hit 70 or so, then it will take 5th smooth, but at @ 2400 in 4th it just cruises along. I am thinking the 4.10's will give me a really quick 1st but it will love the freeway. I wonder if a comprimise, to the tune of 3.90's, would give me more 1st gear, yet let me pin my 160 mph speedo. hmmm. I want it all, right? ha! I put in a pro 5.0 shifter today, and it just works and feels so good I swear it made the car faster! Ha! This is alot of fun
