The time has finally come for me to start putting money together so i can get a new set of gears.
But first i have a few questions.

My car is a 96 GT Auto, 110,xxx miles, stock rear end.
I will be slapping on a vortech kit in the future, so yes i will be running boost.

1. Should i go with 3:73's or 4:10's?
2. Do i need to purchase the installation/bearing kit? (http://www.americanmuscle.com/rearendrebuild.html)
3. How would i go about adjusting my speedometer? Do i get a speed calibrator? (http://www.americanmuscle.com/speed-calibrator-94-04.html)
4. Are there any other parts that i will need to complete the install?

Thanks.

Since you are boosting I say 3.73.

You will need the speed cal if you care about the speedometer being off.

I would get a rebuild kit. No point ripping apart a rear end and not giving it a little refresh.

How much highway driving do you do?

A couple times a month. I'd say most of my driving is city.

Since you are boosting I say 3.73.

Ok. And how does the speedcal actually work? Does it plug into the car's computer and re-adjust the speedo and shift points?
& I noticed steeda & AM stopped selling it. Any clue as to who still does?

Hmmm, I am actually unsure of how it works, though I would imagine it has to do with the OBDII port. I was always told that the SCT tuners only worked on the speedo for 98+ cars.

I am unsure of who sells them.

I ran 4.10's in my Vortech'd Auto 94 and it ripped. The auto's like taller gears. Was perfectly fine on the highway also. Never fear the gear! :)

If your auto either gear will be fine, however know that with a 26 inch tall tire and 4.10s you will run out of gear at like 110 mph lol.

I have 3.73s with my setup and they are perfect

My 96 GT had 4:10's and 70 mph on the interstate was 2900 rpms. My Cobra has 3.73's and 70 mph is about 2550 rpm's.
The 4.10's will have better take off, but the 3.73's seem like a good middle point between take off power and top end power.

Speedcal connects between the existing speed sensor on the tranny to the computer itself, it pretty much just takes the signal and changes the multiplier so the car reads the correct speed

Here's a good install guide http://www.americanmuscle.com/speed-cal-install.html

I am doing my car's gears soon and got the gears, traclok rebuild, install kit with seals, speedcal and of course new fluid

That better take off is worthless if all your doing is spinning though.....

4.10s are fine NA, but add some boost and it becomes a spin fest

What exactly is this 'posi rebuild' you guys are talking about?
And i think i'm pretty set on getting 3:73s now. If i ever do end up using the highway to go to work, i'm sure i'll be glad i settled with 3:73s.
4:10's seems like theyre gonna spin too much once my car begins to make power.
