Trak Lok is what makes helps get power evenly to both wheels. There are times where you will see 1 tire fires meaning only 1 tire will burn out. This is usually caused by a worn out trak lok

How crucial is the rebuild kit when swapping out gears? If my budget allows it, i will most likely look into it.
I'd love more info on what it does exactly though.

If your car has more than 25k miles on the rear end id rebuild it with no questions asked. lol

Basically, rebuild it if you want to spin 2 tires much longer.

So both rebuild kits are necessary in that case right? Both the trac-lok and bearing/seal kit?

instead of a speed cal thing, just get a new speedo gear, then some royal purper gear lube.
i used exactly that in my 98 GT that i had 4.10s put in and everything worked wonderful.

How do i know how many teeth to get? All these speedos are confusing me... is it a 19, 20, or 21 tooth gear?

Gears are so over rated for anything driven a lot IMO. More power + longer gears = winning.

Don't do that... the gears are only good till like 3.55 gears and they strip after like 10 k miles tops....I know because I've been theough 5 of them

I believe they are good till 3:73's on auto's, and 3:55's on 5 speeds. Someone may want to double check that though.

Then should i just stick to getting a speedcal? $135 vs $10 seems a bit fishy to me.
I read the reviews most people put about the speedo gears and they do seem to work..

There's a limit to what the speedo gears can do by just changing the gear on the outside(relative) of the transmission. To go over 3:55 or 3:73, you have to also put on a new gear inside the transmission. If you don't, the gears will wear a lot quicker and not be 100% accurate. Or so i'm so i'm told.

I only know this is accurate on t5's though. I'm not sure about the t-45's. I'd personally go with a speedcal since it's probably more accurate and allows you to change your settings later, and easier. You can also calculate tire sizes with the speedcal.

i dont see how folks go through speedo gears. ive personally used steedas speedo gear and never had an issue of it chewing between the TKO and T-45. i also have 3.73s installed. i didnt install it dry. thats my only tip with the gears.

My issue with the speedo gears is that they recommend the same white gear for both 3.73 and 4.10 on my MT, to say the least there is a huge difference between those ratios so you are going to end up with inaccuracy

that's only because they don't make a gear to fully correct for those gears unless you change out the drive gear for the speedo gear.
