You doing the install yourself? You need a torque wrench for cap bolts, need a impact with enough balls to crush the crush collar and a dial indicator to set correct backlash so your gears don't wine louder then your radio :)

Nope. My friends dad owns a frame/axle place so he's gonna give me a good deal on it hopefully.

I made an spreadsheet yesterday comparing AM, CJPP, and LMR. I'll have to see what the total price was so i can compare them to what you paid so i dont end up spending too much.

The time has finally come for me to start putting money together so i can get a new set of gears.
But first i have a few questions.

My car is a 96 GT Auto, 110,xxx miles, stock rear end.
I will be slapping on a vortech kit in the future, so yes i will be running boost.

1. Should i go with 3:73's or 4:10's?
2. Do i need to purchase the installation/bearing kit? (http://www.americanmuscle.com/rearendrebuild.html)
3. How would i go about adjusting my speedometer? Do i get a speed calibrator? (http://www.americanmuscle.com/speed-calibrator-94-04.html)
4. Are there any other parts that i will need to complete the install?

Thanks.

yeah so this is my first day on the forums and I went to edit my post and managed to not see that all the information i posted was highlighted and I saved it and lost it all. <fail>

Call me tomorrow I'll take care of you. You dont need a speed cal, you a drive gear. I will explain when we talk. I am going to go home now and figure all this out for you again and repost this.

Thank you. However, i will order all these parts around may. I'm just getting an idea together of what i need to purchase when the time comes.
I will also most likely be purchasing from you guys, since you have the lowest prices on all the parts i need.

Ok no problem, I'll still work with you on these to help out with that price. Here is a sample of the gear you'll want to get when you do your swap.

If you have any questions at all let me know.

2 things, you don't plan on keeping the car for a long time+it's an auto. So I say 4.10's. I had 3.73's then went with 4.10's and they make the car feel fast..GL on your journey...

Very good point. When i'm done with the car, i may take it to the track at least once, but i dont really care what it runs..
At this point, i just want to have fun with it. Running out of gear at like 110 shouldn't be an issue because i wont be driving that fast..

What i really need is a specific breakdown of the differences between 3:73's & 4:10's.

Yup... And ur gas mileage won't suffer as bad with 3:55... I love mine... Wouldn't trade em for 373 ever

Imo 4:10s aren't for the street...

My experience with speedo gears with my auto and 3.73s was this.

I could get close enough to be ok with it, even though It was still of a bit....but, I legit would chew up a speedo gear every 10k miles to the point where the speedo wouldnt work. Considering you have an auto and want to 3.73s or 4.10s, im thinking you will have the same issue.

I would just do the speedcal and be done with it.

i dont see how folks go through speedo gears. ive personally used steedas speedo gear and never had an issue of it chewing between the TKO and T-45. i also have 3.73s installed. i didnt install it dry. thats my only tip with the gears.

Maybe the manual trannys dont have the issue?

I have no idea, but I can tell you that my auto would strip them to pieces very fast.
