I went thru this whole ORDEAL 4yrs ago. Reason: Rear end was whining at 70-80k after I bought it at 65k. Drove me BONKERS.

I bought 3 quartz of Amsoil fluid, and Ford Friction modifier
Full bearing kit
New Posi Clutches
Ford Racing 3.73's
New axle bearings
1 ABS sensor because it broke off when being replaced.
Dallas mustang speedcal w/ dip switches.
In total with parts + Labor. Spent about 600 dollars.

Result: Extrememly quick shifts because mine is an Auto. I chose that gear because it was the middle gear, almost all around gear you can choose. My rearend is quiet as a mouse, and I can hear the trans and exhaust over anything esle now. 20k+ miles later, still same way, and I can roast both tires from a standstill no brake.

Also I knew that I was going to boost the car one day.

4.56's in my 4v Ftw T56

Nice, those must be fun..

With my 5 speed at 80MPH. The RPM's w/ 3.73's are at 2600, w/ 4.10's they are 3k straight up. I still get 24 mpg on the highway..I've had both gears..

I'm sure the auto isn't that much difference..

Speedo gear for the love of jeezus! if it strips well I hear there cheap. Second to all the peeps saying 4.10 is unstreetable you make me sad panda. If your going for a gear get the most that you can realistically, I would do 4.10 with your car for sure. Even if its blown later id go for it. ESPECIALLY on a 4.6 they love gear, torque multiplication=sunshine =D

I daily'd my 95 all the time on 4.10s, was great fun.

I recommend going with a Speedcal unit. They're super easy to install and if you ever change gears again, all you have to do is flip a couple switches in it. Plus it'll actually be accurate instead of just sorta accurate with the speedo gears that will eventually wear out.

If you're stomping on it all the time then yes. Driving in traffic a lot.. not so much. But for what it sounds like you want to do, go with 4:10's.

Honestly, a 4.10 and a 3.73 aren't TOO too far away from one another. I don't think you'll notice too much of a difference in terms of driveability over stock gears. The car isn't going to suddenly become a wild beast (unless you mash on it all the time), your car will just be shifting sooner and you'll be turning a little bit higher RPMs on the interstate, no big deal. I've always heard that you should go with 3.73s with manuals and 4.10s with automatics. I have 4.10s in my manual car and can not imagine it any other way. I've also heard that 3.73s are better for boost because having that slightly longer gear helps build boost and whatnot but any gear is better than stock. Just pick one and go.

Nice, I dont really know why people always make these threads...theres really not much difference between the 4.10s and 3.73s anyway lol

4.10s are perfect for an auto, just sucks that you run out of gear early as hell

The thread was more so i could get an idea of what else i needed for the rebuild. Like the trac-lok kit, bearing/seals, speedo gear, etc..

So i've finally acquired most of the parts needed for the install.

Right now i've got:
- 4.10 ring and pinion
- Basic ring and pinion install kit
- Traction-lok rebuild kit
- 23-tooth speedo gear

Is there anything else i need to complete the install? Do i need to buy gear oil?
I won't be doing it myself but i want to make sure i have all the parts.
