At the end of the month I'm going to be purchasing a new set of 3:55 gears for my 95 GT 5 speed. It still has the stock gears right now. I will most likely buy a set of FR gears. My question is, what else other than gears do I need to buy for the install? I'm hoping not to break the bank on this

I was looking at these http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=642cPath=3_37 I don't understand the pollution controlled vehicle warning though. The ones on cjpony are $5 less with free shipping as well but the ones on The FR page say they are different and stronger because of some new process. Now I'm stuck. As for the install kit, should I cough up the extra cash for the pricier ones or is the $80 One ok?

if you have abs you will more than likely need to buy new abs sensors.

More than likely you will have to buy new rear abs sensors. Mine didn't want to come out, so I spent about an hour trying to get them out with a socket, hammer, malet, screw driver, and ended up cracking them in half. I then spent about the same amount of time getting the seized remains out of the adapter plate. I don't know anyone that has got them out withoutt breaking them.

This is everything you need for a gear swap.

1. If buying FRPP gears they will come w/ the crush collar and shims

2. Friction modifier ( Local Ford dealer should have some, saves on shipping)

3. 3 quarts of gear oil 75-90W

4. Speedo gear if you care to change it.

I debated between 3:73 and 3:55s for a while. I drove both and liked the 3:73s on the street better but the RPMs rode too high on the highway, At least for my liking. The 3:55s give me a good mix of both, a significant increase in acceleration on the street compared to the stock gears and low enough RPMs on the highway.

3.55 is a big difference over the stock 2.73! I had them in my 5.0 and loved m, best of both world. Enough grunt the roast the tires easily and nice highway rpm's.

The install kit isn't necessary if you're on a tight budget, but you'd be a fool to rip apart your rear and not replace the bearings and seals. Especially if it has a lot of miles on it.
