Im just looking for a good upgrade over stock brakes that wont brake the bank. Just looking for pads and rotors, unless stock calipers suck that bad. Is there any good kits out there, or do I have to buy pads and rotors separate? Thanks

I had Power-slot rotors and Hawk brake pads. A little pricey but definitely a big improvement over the stock stuff. Probably the best thing you'll get out of it without upgrading everything to a 13 in. rotor.

I did a complete 13" Baer brake swap with new rotors, lines, calipers, and EBC redstuff pads for $280. That made a BIG difference.

Rotors won't give you more stopping power, replace them if yours are warped. You can get them machined as well.

A cheap and effective mod is to run 99-04 PBR caliper from a GT or V6 IIRC. And a good pad. EBC, Hawk, Porterfield, all make good street pads. They will be pricey to do all 4, but that's what does the braking. If your pads suck, so does your braking system, no matter what you have.

And don't forget to change out fluid. Flush all the fluid with a good bleeding. ABS setup takes a bit to get everything out, so be patient. DOT 3/4 synthetic is what you want.

If cheap is your main priority but you still want improved stopping look for for the 99-04 gt calipers. They work with stock size rotors and are 2 piston vs your 1 piston. Very good budget upgrade if you can't afford the cobra/bullitt 13" upgrade at this time.

Exactly you can pick up e PBR calipers for 50-100 with lines... I am always in a motto I change lines and clips even I do a caliper swap.. I would rather be safe then sorry. Especially on a OEM rubber line that you have no idea what it's been through.

A quality OEM blank or Brembo rotor I suggest.

As rich said good pad, flush and bleeding.

hey got the bear brakes for next to nothing

i got my 98 cobra rotors, calipers, lines, pads and pin kit for 250. gave them some love, and they look and feel way better. my doesnt have abs and i felt a noticeable difference in the pedal feel.

you can buy a use cobra brake kit off of ebay for about the same price. the only thing i would do is replace the pads if needed and turn the rotors as well as get the brake lines with ss lines.

The price on the used stuff has gone up since LRS starting selling the cobra kit for like $600. I got my new bullitt kit for like $350 and when I take them off and sell them I will get close to that used.

That and there calipers in that package aren't aluminum to my understanding right???

Oems are aluminum and the repop are a cast steel or iron.

Its getting hard to find aluminum OEM ones anymore. Hence why I have the kit I have up for sale at my price.

You can get some good deals through RockAuto as well, but you also need caliper brackets to do the 13" stuff.

Most street driven Mustangs will never need anything more than stock blank rotors, the 2 piston 99-04 calipers (GT or V6 is the same), SS lines and good fluid/pads. If you can lock 'em up, brakes aren't the issue - tires/suspension are.
