If you swap the SN95/302 accessory brackets over to the 351(you should, it's easier), you will need a spacer on the balancer to line up the belt.

No. You don't.

I can't argue with you on that. A buddy of mine put everything together at his shop, I just ordered the parts as needed.

I just took a look at the receipts and here's the spacer I thought I used (maybe it never went on, can't remember)
http://mustang-parts.cjponyparts.com/search?w=m8510b351
it came with this balancer
http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...~S2AL0P42VF71173618014a~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z50000016e
for some reason they're selling them individually now, I got them together for 237.45 a little over a year ago.
this is the flywheel I used

this oil pan kit
http://store.summitracing.com/partd...908282+4294924760+4294840125+115&autoview=sku
and the headers
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_36768_-1

I forgot to mention, I had to swap over my 302 timing cover and use a "short nose" 94/95 water pump(the Lightning uses a different cover and a longer water pump)

My suff is definitly not the best stuff out there, but it got the job done at a reasonable price. Prices have gone up since then though.

And Paul, that's a badass engine compartment :boink: makes mine look like a hyundai :crying: I see a fox T/B setup, are your accessories Fox also ? Maybe that's the difference. The T stat housing is obviously different too. It all looks amazing !!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm nowhere near done with it, it's not even tuned yet. So I don't have a clue what it makes. I've been told 260 rwhp +-, it sounds low, but a 302 realisticaly puts down 210/215. The difference is in the torque, it's a BIG difference. It's lots of fun on the street with 3.73s . Plus the potential is where it's at, you can stroke it big.
I have baby GT40 heads and the matching intakes, there are lots of heads that will give much more power to the 351 I hear.

I saw this question on another forum, I think it was you also so I'll help here instead.

I'm still using the stock MAF, 19lb injectors, and stock fuel pump. I have a 90mm MAF, 30lb inj, and a 255lph pump to install. I'm having the lower intake ported soon and then will have it all tuned. I'm hoping for 285/290hp then. I think the tune is where I'm going to find some good HP.

Bad Black - I really think you should spend the money on mods for your 302 instead. Once you've bought then engine, the headers, the oil pan, the motor mounts, the belt, the balancer, the flywheel, etc. etc. you could have a modded 302 that makes far more power than a stock 351. Plus you'll have the added benefit of fuel injection and decent mileage.

Having done it - I would say that swapping a 351 in isn't worth it unless you're going for BIG cubic inches and have a relatively expensive combo. Otherwise, a 302 or 302-based stroker is the more reasonable alternative.

WUZa50h - my motor has OEM 94-95 bracketry. I change to a fox TB setup because I couldn't get a big enough TB for a SN95. (that's a 90mm) The thermostat housing is nothing more than a chunk of aluminum with a -20AN bung welded on it.

The big cube motor do have a nice torque advantage though. My previous (very mild) 418 made 442 ft. lbs. at <3000 rpms.

Nice stuff Paul. I'm not going to argue with somebody with a setup like that. That takes patience and I don't have any.
The spacer came as a kit with the balancer, I checked the receipt. It probably never went in. I apologize, don't want to put out false information. Thanks for clearing that up.

The 351 is good to hold more power without splitting down the middle . My plans were to have a blower on it, so the stronger block made sense. I'm actually leaning towards a turbo kit, so it makes even more sense now. This year I'm painting car, so either one will wait at least another year, just looking ahead.

Paul, my dream Engine has alwasy been a 408, don't ask me why, i don't know... I've just always wanted one...LOL... I look at it, as though,i can pick this up now for $500, use my brackets, and the balancer already on it. my buddy has an aluminum 28oz flywheel, he's selling me for $125(he owes me for some stuff i sold for him) I'm leaving it carb'd, and running it around like that. I've also got a buddy who's got parts for it, and a set of Roush heads, so i'm going to build it slowly over time... I don't know... there's just something about building a 351, that give me a hardon. LOL... the 302 just doesn't do it for me... HOWEVER, i'm going to offer the guy $550, and see if he'll throw in the 302 longblock with the 351, since he was only asking $100 for the 302 anyways... plan on turning that around into a small profit, to put back into the 351...

A 408 is certainly a good choice. You can use a relatively inexpensive stroker kit and make good power (relatively) inexpensively. I'm a huge proponent for big cube small blocks. The next motor I build will be a 445 cubic inch SBF from a World block.

If you've got your heart set on it, go for it. Just be sure you have a good plan in place before you dive in to make sure you don't end up with a non-running car and a bunch of parts. You need to take into account the cost for EVERYTHING (gaskets, bolts, shop consumables, etc.) unless you can afford to just pay for it without thinking about it. You'd be amazed at how expensive all the little crap ends up being.

I'm going to slap the 351 on the engine stand my 390 is currently on(move the 390 to the floor) and i will add pieces here and there, and build it on the stand till I have everything... then I'll take the engine, and the car to the hobby shop on base here, and do all the work there. they haver tools, lifts, and everything i need... thats where my buddy did his 331 swap. I figure it'll be a 2 day process depending on how many people help... maybe just one. as i said, i plan on having everything bolted on, or ready to go on before i yank the stock engine from the car... I'll do the 408 when i get to Houston, as i know some good machinists there.

You are correct... June 20 is my goal date... but with my son turning 1, 2 weeks from today, money may NOT be there, I don't want to put the Engine in, until i have everything i want (goals stage 1, we'll call it) finished. once thats all done, then she'll go in.
