I'm buying a gt-40 for a good price i was wondering what should do it before i instill it

how about port and polish

Depends on what other mods you have. If you plan on being stock for a while just throw it on unported. Porting it and bolting it on a stock long block will not help your stock power range. I've had a ported on just sitting for 4 years now since I still have the stock h/c. No since in putting it on while in stock form since I can't take advantage of the ported awesomeness.
