you can find them all over the place, a teksid block is worth every bit of 300 bucks, ive seen some go for high 200's but not much lower.

cobras mark viii;s and exploders had em.

if you find a alum. block, you will know it when you see it, it will be nice and clean looking for the most part, and it will be silver. the iron blocks look almost black in color, and unless freshly prepped, will have corrosion on them.

99-01 cobras had them, dont be mistaken though, 03-04 cobras had iron blocks.

explorers are the way to go, you will usually find them cheaper than teksids. they are the 2v alum. block that have 2 bolt mains. ive seen them go way cheaper than teksids, like 100-150 bucks for one.

yea thats an aluminum block.

so far as the Teksid being a stronger block, some say it is, it was cast in italy and blah, blah, blah and its better.

but really, all the 4.6 blocks have proven to be very strong, alum. teksid's, non teksid alum's, and iron alike.

it really comes down to personal preference, and wieght. the iron blocks weigh 180 pounds, the alum. blocks wiegh in at barely 100 pounds.

if your looking to save wieght, alum. is the way to go. if you dont care, get whatever you can find. i dont think there is even one story of someone breaking a block because of to much HP. they are very strong. not like the old 5.0 blocks that split over 500hp.

im building my motor with an iron block. i got it because it was free, and everything was straight. picked it up for free, paid 50 bucks to have it hot-tanked and checked for deck smoothness, and all journals and bores for straightness. everything checked in well under spec.

i wanted an alum. block at first, but couldn't find any near me. so a free iron block for me.

I paid $300 for my low mile Teksid out of a 96 Cobra. Also scored the cranks from it. The going rate is gonna be $300-$400 for them in great condition and less if they show signs of wear etc.

The 93-98 Lincoln Mark VIII had the same block as the Cobra so look for them too.

Are you thinking of using it with a 2V?

If you go with the Teksid with a 2V you need to drill a coolant passage in the block for the 2V heads that 4V doesn't have. I have a pic for you to see. Its also smart to pick up a timing cover from a 94-5 4.6 Tbird. Its a perfect fit on the teksid and has the same pattern as ours. You can use your current cover but 1 hole is open and needs to be RTV'd. Its no big deal but i am a perfectionist so i found one on ebay for $50 shipped. I can give you the part # if you go that route.

"F3AE" is the timing cover, any RWD 4.6 2V 93-95 should have it... Cougar, Vic etc

Also the tensioner arms mount differently on the aluminum block then iron so you will need the threaded pins for that. I can't remember anything else that was different.

Drill here. Just put down a head gasket and you will see where you need a hole. The area is only like a 1/4 inch thick so it doesn't take much to get through.

I have a very good friend who is in the process of putting a mark 8 motor in a mark 7 i think it is... either way he is a very knowledgable man and when we were looking at doing my teksid after he is half way down his, he enlightened me. If a teksid block is taken apart like a normal cast block there will be issues. The way the block is set up with tolerance and other specifications the block will actually twist and warp if the block isnt sequenced correctly for tear down. You may want to have that block checkd.

***** another way to get around this is to buy a WAP block, it the aluminum alternative to the Teksid.

a wap block is basically a teksid block, not as storong (plus 800hp) and its made at the windsor automotive plant (wap) its aluminum block came in cobras and other vehicles. as far as checking i know i said you could have it checked but i really dont know how you would until it was too late ie motor backtogether.
