having problems and totally lost

got a all stock 95 5.0, 5 speed with 140,00 miles, and I am lost as to what is wrong.
idles horribly at lights, shoots up to 1500-2000 rpm and then just dies, even when you give it gas
when you accelerate from a light, once you get to about 2500-3000 rpms, its like it hits a brick wall, it will not accelerate, then all of a sudden it takes off like a bat outta hell and throws ya in the back seat.
I'm getting maybe 13 mpg, thats highway
outside of the car smells like gas, but there is no apparent leak anywhere
Ita bad when i have more confidence pulling out in traffic with my 91 s-10 blazer, than i do with this thing
Check engine light comes off and on like its supposed to be on, and hell, sometimes it runs better when it is on
I have already replaced the computer, and part of the ignition, My roommate is a certified master mech who loves stangs, been building them for years and has no clue as to what is wrong. there are more problems than what i can remember right now, makes me wabt to get rid of the car, io need help, any ideas??? oh yeah, no matter the speed, down shifting is a bad idea if you want to pass someone, cuz it isn't gonna happen

my first thought was the computer but you said you already replaced it. When you bought it did it come with any mods?

the only mods it has if thats what you want to call it is an MSD coil, some Taylor wires, and some no name mufflers, otherwise it is bonestock, right down to the air filter and four cats. i thought that maybe it was the computer too, especially when i looked at it ans it said it was a rmanufactured one. thats when i bought the computer my buddy has just taken out of his wrecked 95, that ran just fine. so I put it in my 95, the car ran finr for about a day and went right back to acting like a, well, you know what

I would start with the little things, Clean Mass Air Flow, IAC motor, and reset your TPS. Next you might want to put a new set of sparkplugs in
just so you know they're good.. Check your fuel pressure... I've had this similar problem twice on my 95gt.. Both times it felt as if i applied the
throttle, and someone had a tow-rope hooked to my back bumper, holding me back. The first time the culprit was some bad gas... Now i only
fill up with BP 91 octane and haven't had the problem since. The second time it happened, my drivers side o2 sensor was acting up every now and
then.. So i replaced both o2 sensors with OEM ford ones and smooth sailing thus far.

do those and also after you do unhook the batt for a couple min and then go back through a relearn process with the computer.

when i first got my car it was doing something like that i would start by cleaning all the sensors like mentioned also check your fuel pressure my car had a bad pump...

clean the MAF, drive the piss putta it, and check back in, and let us know what happened.

well, i replaced the O2 sensors, got rid of the stock 4 cat h-pipe with an O/R h-pipe from BBK, replaced the mufflers with some Dynomax with downturns & borrowed an MSD from a buddy. She definitely runs much better, still has a slight miss & the check engine light comes on, but nowhere near as much. Next on the list is a full tune up; spark plugs, replace the Taylor 10.5mm with some 8.5mm or 9mm, cap and rotor.Then replace the 308 gear with 373 until i get my lazy butt in gear to put in the 04 IRS with 355s in the car. Just wanted to take the time out to thank everybody for their suggestions, cuz I totally forgot about the O2s, thanks guys
