hey guys,

i'm building up a 331 for my 94 gt. stock block, no power adders in the future. i'm curious to see what hci you guys think would best suit my setup. it's going to be a weekend warrior, with some occasional track runs. i'd like to get up above 425 to the wheels when i'm done. is that a reasonable goal? like i said, it's a 331 kit, forged internals in a stock block. i have a friend who is reccomending a motorsport f cam, edel. perf. rpm heads, and perf. rpm intake.

thanks for the advice in advance.

You're going to have to go WAY bigger than that to acheive 425 to the wheels out of only 331 cubes. I run AFR 185s, trickflow trackheat intake, and a pretty big cam by most 5.0 standards and make 346rwhp. You CAN make that kind of power but being streetable isn't going to exactly be a strong point for it.

425 rwhp from a street-driven 331 is a very tall order. The parts you mentioned will make ~260-290 rwhp.

To make 425 you'd need compression, a big cam, great cylinder heads, lots of RPM, etc...

I plan to make around 425rwhp and drive the 331 every day. :) Should bump alittle at the redlights though.

Im telling you that's going to be a tall order to get that at the wheels N/A through a 331 and it still be streetable. And you are going to need HIGH Compression and a HUGE cam. Look at what ryclef331 made and he has a very nice setup. Once you get your done and get it dynoed post the Dyno sheet up with a video of the car idling and running...hahaha if you can get 425RWHP through a very streetable N/A 331 we will definitely be talking and ill be talking to whoever dynoed you car to see what settings he was using on his dyno.

Hell I'm not worried about the numbers it puts out really. The T56 will probably suck up enough power to keep me below 400rwhp anyways. I just want her to run either low low 11's or high 10's at 120+mph. I will be happy then. :)

And let me guess both of you plan to do it on a "budget", right? :rollinglaugh:

Yeah, well quit talking, get to work and let us know when you get there.

Waiting on the shortblock to come back from the machine shop. All I've got left on the christmas list is the intake, throttle body, headers, and oil pan. Heads should be built middle of next week. They were in the CNC machine Friday afternoon. :coolsmiley:

alright, alright i get the point!!!

i see that my aspirations were a little, agressive. say i want to still drive it on the street, on pump gas. what heads, cam and intake would you recommend? let me try to get to 375 rwhp then. is that more realistic?

How much money do you have to spend on this project? Is there a particular reason you've chosen 375 rwhp - do you want this to be a track monster? Is this your only car?

A n/a 375 rwhp 331 ci motor is certainly achievable, but you'll suffer in street manners compared to a more mild combination.

Nick a set of out of the box AFR 185s, a custom cam, and a RPMII intake or a Systemax intake will get you over 375rwhp and your driveability will be great along with your gas mileage for what you will have. Very simple combination and 375rwhp is very realistic. IMO everything is going to come down to the camshaft. There is nothing wrong with an off the shelf cam (I will run one in my 331) but if you want the most power and best driveability go with a custom one. I'd suggest Jay Allen. Also to make 375rwhp expect to shift your car around 6,000-6,500rpms. :thumb: Good luck man. That is a combo that has been done time and time again and those heads with that intake have proven over and over to make 370rwhp. I'd also suggest running around 10.1:1 compression.

basically i said 375rwhp because i want to run my group of friends who run ls-1's. i figure if i can get up to 375-400 rwhp, i should be able to stay with them. maybe not beat all of them (some of them are on spray, head work, etc) but at least not be embarrased like i was last summer!
