Hello
I got a trickflow track heat kit sitting in my room, it will go as soon as the snow melts, Id like to stroke the motor to a 347 but i dont know if the heads would leave too much power on the table for the money ill put in a stroker kit, the heads are 170cc what do you think?

keep in mind a twisted wedge 170 is basically the same as an AFR 185, that said even then they are small.

What are your goals for this combo?

it would be wise for you to just sell the full TFS top end kit and start with something bigger.

te cam and intake will also be restrictions on the 347... so would you rather install everything, just to remove it and replace it with better parts later, or right off the bat.

it'll make 400 at the crank w/ those heads out of the box.

have them milled down, clean up the chambers and run a custom cam and you'll make over 400 at the tires if you're willing to run 10:1 or a little more.

Gonna have to disagree.. That intake will kill his power.. Now a box r with those heads, 10.5-11:1 with a custom grind MIGHT get him close to 400 but even then that will be a stretch..

Depends on the compression of the engine, depends on the combustion chamber size of the heads. If your running NA and the heads have huge ass combustion chambers then I wouldn't use them

The twisted wedge heads are similar to the AFR 165s, not the 185s. If my memory serves even the 165cc AFRs out flow the TFTW heads.

false. the TW heads use a shorter port, so they have a larger cross section then their size indicates. the 170's cross section is more similar to a AFR 185 ect.

Air flow of each is still debated everywhere. AFR uses a 4.125" bore when publishing flow numbers, keep that in mind. The 165 flows more then the 170 when the 170 has a 4" bore and the 165 has a 4.125" bore, but what happens when both use a 4" bore?

TW 170 ~ AFR 185

Usually you see a 185-205 head on 347s

^^This

For a 347 I'd be looking at either the FAC 190, or an AFR 205. I'd also consider the raised port heads like TF highports, Canfield 195's, or the Ford z304 heads if you have extra header space and use an intake that can feed them the air they'll want.

so you just confirmed that the AFR 165s outflow the TF TW heads which is what I said.

what he confirmed, is that you cannot compare the TFS flow numbers and th AFR numbers, because they are tested on different equipment.

High Ports are bitchin!

If I could have found some when I was building my engine, I'd be running them myself. But I got my canfields for a STUPID deal... $650 for the pair. I put about $250 into them though. but still, $900 for a pair of heads that are one of the best out there?!

do the AFR 165s not usually make more power than the TF TW heads on any given build?
