heads without cam worth it??

i was wondering what i would gain from just putting windsor jr heads on without changing the cam? will i feel a differance without changing the cam and if so wat possible power gains/loss would i get thanks for any help!

Oh yeah..

You will definitely feel a difference. The stock cam is not as horrible as people think...you might gain a tenth or two in the 1/4 with a cam swap.

Unless you truly wanna do the work, keep the stock..put the heads on and have fun.

From an E7 to some Windsor Jr I would say you'd pick up a sold 25-30 HP. You're gonna make more if you have a good manifold..

Jump to a good set of valve springs, 1.7 rockers, good manifold, change the cam timing, and you can have a 12 second car. Quite a few people do it

I have had a set of heads sitting under my bed waiting till I can find a good cam to put in with them. No reason to go that far and not take the extra steps needed to swap the cam and get the gains it will show no matter how bad I would love to throw the heads in.

ok so i did the head swap and also threw in a e303 with cobra manifold see signature for other mods but car doesnt fell as quick as i thought it would, any suggestions? thanks again guys!

Definitely worth it. I added a set of AFR165's and a TMoss ported Cobra intake to my wife's 94 and it made a big difference! I left the stock cam because i didn't want the car to have drivability issues since it is my wife's toy. Turned out perfect as it basically drives like stock just putting around but when you put your foot in it she boogies!

what are the specs on the windsor jr heads? why did you choose the e303?

I made 330 w/ a stock cam and awesome heads decent intake, setting the cam up as prescribed by a cam guru and flipping the pistons around on the rods to get it out of the hole a little more for better compression. lots of other tricks went into that setup but thats the basics.

Gonna need a tune to get the full potential out of the setup.

That cam makes power.

It is old technology..yes.

Are there better cams out there..absolutely.


Just for sh1ts and giggles, here are dyno numbers from an E-Cam setup a guy I know ran for the longest time until he went NMRA Real Street.

- 80mm MAF
- 70mm TB
- TFS Track Heat intake
- TFS stock wedge heads
- E303 cam
- Long Tubes
- X-pipe
- Catback
- S-trim 2.95 pulley

Around 14-15 iirc

A lot is in tuning as well...you have to be good to run AND win NMRA real street. By the way...that was through a C4 too.
