so, i broke an oil pan bolt when putting the oil pan back on. It seared right off and somehow trying to get it out with a left hand drill bit, it went and put a hole in the bottom of the slot. what should i do? I can't tap it, and there is a hole down there :BangHead:. I tried tapping it, but the f!@#ing tap broke in the hole. What do you guys think? i don't want to just leave it with a lot of RTV and cold weld that spot back up, but that may be my only option.

HELP!!! :BangHead: :BangHead:

no, its an engine i'm putting together for fun. i think i may just fill the hole with some cold weld and tap it again. that seems like the only option since you can't really weld it there and i can tap it a lot easier that way.
i'm just really pissed about it.

you won't be retaping anything around that broken tap. maybe you can move over about 1/2" and drill and tap a new hole

well that sucks. But the fact is, these pans are so common its not funny. I have 5 fox 5.0 pans/sn95 5.0 ones. It's not hard to come by one

yah, sorry didn't make it clear. i am pretty sure i'll be able to get teh tap out tomorrow, so i'll fill the whole completely with some cold-weld (rated over 500 degrees) and retap through that when it's dry.
thanks for all the helpful hints! Can a fox pan be used on an sn95?

Not to terribly bad but. The fox pan will work. Long as it has a low oil light sensor spot

If theres a spot on the side of the pan where a wire plugs into a little sensor, that would be it. I believe 90/ came with them

just buy a heli coil kit. i've never had good luck w/ tapping jb weld. Get the tap out, slowly drill the hole larger to the size you need then put the insert in. its done right and no one's the wiser. Your driveway will thank you when its not spotted w/ oil.

ya + 1 on the helicoil if you can't tap it, I had this happen with a valve cover bolt...sucks...at least you got it on a stand, and you can get the drill nice and straight. Good Luck
