So if anyone remembers me talking about my car smelling like gas/oil, it's a gas leak around the pump spot in the tank, where the hose goes into the tank. The seal seems torn, and it's where gas is slowly dripping out.

sigh.... how do i fix?

It looks like theres only 4 bolts holding the gas tank on??

if you mean the filler tube (where you fill the tank). its fairly easy... just run the gas out... take the bolts loose at the filler cap, take the pump connector off at the top/rear of the tank.. take the straps loose and bring it down. just put a light coat of oil on the seal to help the filler neck slide back in.. its not very hard at all. i recommend to anyone that drops the tank for a pump, etc... go ahead and replace that seal

Hmm... cool, so it's not much work at all. I ran the gas out already, So this weekend i reccon i'll buy a new seal for the filler/tank connection or w/e because that's where it's at.

Thanks a ton bro!

no prob... just get a handy friend to help ya juggle the tank

Take this advice seriously lol. I've dropped my tank and put it back up myself, and trust me, it's NOT fun. Even with the rear end way up in the air, i ended up lying on my back holding it up with my knees trying to get those straps bolted back on.

+1...Nothing worse than a tank laying on your chest and you cant get it back up there... Been there, done that :(

You could go ahead and upgrade the Fuel Pump as well while it's down. better do it all now, then more than once... while you're at it, change the Fuel filter. you can of course do it while the tank is in, but screw it, with the tank out, you can set up a lawnchair in there and do it. :dancing6:

Hmm... So i got off my butt and droped the tank. I took pics and i used a jack to hold the tank steady for a night till the part comes in. Was really easy honestly, i even got to clean all the old gas off the tank for the most part.

Heres pics of the broken seal

It's a mess right now, the car is filthy and so is the underside.... and the paint is old. I dunno what to do about the looks of the car besides wait and get it extremly detailed and painted with hood + spoiler or something. Sigh...

most likely. You will get into your duty station and want to work on a car... not spend all of your little earnings on a car payment. I would wait a year or two, untill you get a little bit of rank (higher pay scale) then get the car you want.

I agree with scareface on both things... bootcamp + Letters = AWESOME... letters in bootcamp, or a package on deployment would totally make my week. you could kick me in the nuts on deployment, but if i had recieved a package from the wife, or parentals, i would be ok with it...
as for the car... the military doesn't pay much man, not much at all... not till you hit E4+ even then it's not great,if you're car is paid for, keep it. bank all that extra money... a car payment while you're in the military sucks, cause it takes away that extra bit of cash you want to use to hang out with your buddies, or buy the clothes, or get a hotel and get wasted on the weekends. LOL... I wish i would have had a car when i got here. i bought one while i was here, and it's almost $200 a month i'm out. keep the car, tinker with it. save... did you get an enlistment bonus? what branch did you sign up with?
