96 Mustang GT manual transmission noise

It has a short-throw shifter, and I've heard a noise like this before... the shifter just needed tightening, but that was less than 1,000 miles ago. This is a lot worse than that, and is constant through all gears...the old noise went away if I put my hand on the shifter, and I only heard it in 5th gear. Goes away when in neutral and coasting. I'm taking it to a mechanic soon, just thought I'd look for thoughts.

occasional grind if I shift too quickly during the first 5ish minutes of driving, but that's it...though it's hard to tell if performance is suffering...it's all suffering from the heat. The big hair drier under my hood doesn't like 108 F. :sad5:

BTW, all my sounds turned out to be a bad wheel bearing and a rear end in need of rebuild. Now it sounds great.

Per my last post, it was an issue with the rear end (and a bad wheel bearing)
