In short when i step on the gas it ticks but i recently got an exhaust leak fixed so idk why it would be ticking

and

When it's rainy or cold it feels like the power is being clogged and occasionally backfires or does something that sounds like backfiring.

any ideas? any of you have similar problems in the past?
I'm also getting about 8 MPG which is not cool considering the bulk of my driving is highway and i don't thrash on the car because of how it's running.

Pull codes. you could have one set without having the CEL on.
Then start with a fresh tune up and clean the maf while your there.
How old is the dizzy and coil?

bad milage could be from bad o2's or clogged cats

I pulled a key in engine off code for secondary fuel system but i can't pull engine on codes on my own with my sensor. My distributor, MAF, air filter, water pump, plugs and wires were all replaced last summer. My mechanic said he unclogged the cats and did o2s last time i brought it to him

Well if its the stock one and you have over 100k miles on it, your might be due for one. My mustang was feeling sluggish on acceleration and stalling out sometimes at idle.I cleaned all my stuff, but it wound up being my fuel pump. You should get a scanner and check your codes, I was pulling that I was running lean on the right side or something.

THE obdII port under the dash doesn't work on the 94-95gt's. You have to use the under hood ones buy the rt shock tower.. A haynes/chilton manual can walk you through it by using a paperclip if needed.
I have never heard of "unclogging cats" before. When they get clogged they get replaced.

Probably what he meant. I have a sensor but no one really knows what to do with it for an engine running test aside from me but i can't be on the passenger side of my car checking the sensor for when to hit the pedal and hitting the pedal at the same time so that's why i've not pulled engine on codes yet. I pulled key on engine off but i only got 1 code about a secondary fuel system problem.

Yeah, me and my dad did it together (i got to hit the gas while he pulled the codes from the engine bay lol). I know around me in Florida, Autozone or advanced autoparts have the ODB1 scanner and they were checking people's codes for free.

try making sure your plugs are all good and seated correctly. I saw a car one time that had a bad cable and would make a very audible ticking noise that varied with rpms.

I'll definitely check that in the morning I totally forgot that was happening right when i put the plugs in last year. I pushed them all in hard and it went away and i completely forgot it happened. Thanks for the reminder!

Just checked them, they all look fine nothing is loose or sitting to far out. I went to pull the codes but the book said not to unless i get a pass with the engine off. On the engine off test i pulled code 542 which is a fuel pump secondary circuit issue. The book says if i pull engine on codes without a pass on the engine off test they might be invalid.....

Update on this. Brought it to my mechanic discovered missing bolts on headers and gaskets completely shot, brought it to a really cool speed shop to get it fixed. Took 2 hours and only cost me $200, I cleared the CM codes, pulled again and got an all clear. If CEL comes on I'll pull KOER codes. Cars sound really nice now, a little quite but it has a nice smooth burble just like i like.

When we bought our GT in '95, I noticed a ticking also. Assuming it was an exhaust leak, I brought it to the dealer and had it looked at. Turned out to be a defective fuel injector, which they replaced. At least that is what I was told.

This may also explain poor performanc/backfiring. May be worth looking into.

The leak was the root of all the problems. Car hasn't back fired and power doesn't feel as if it's being clogged back like it did before. My o2s are still telling my fuel pump it's running lean so i'm still getting bad MPG. Luckily school ended so most of my driving is eliminated and they'll be fixed next week.
