I have a 98 cobra that is slightly modded. Has 4.56 gear, msd coils, racing wires and plugs, h-pipe catted with flow master 40s, on 18" staggered Saleen speedsters running 265 nitto nt-555 on the front and 285s on the rear. My issue is my launch. On paved asphalt (road) I spin like crazy trying to launch, especially in 1st (makes me think my 1st is just a burnout gear). Anyone have any ideas of what RPMs i should try to launch?

You need to practice slipping on the clutch a little and also don't go full throttle until the car is moving

Sounds complicated but with practice it works great

Im not sure it would make a difference if you launched at idle...you have 4.56 gears and you're running street tires, you're probably gonna overpower the tires at WOT in first gear no matter what you do.

If you want better traction you're gonna need to run Drag radials or improve suspension although I think the better option is just the better tires.

Otherwise learn to modulate the throttle in first gear, slip the clutch out, practice practice practice.

Theres only so much you can do on street tires with that much power and gear though.

better tires and suspension. otherwise the inertia will sit, tire spin and tire skate. i hate tire skating.

Yea, I agree I was looking to trade my streets for some radials. Cause right now I cant do anything with these haha

A decent set of upper and lower control arms will help too. .02
Yea when I lower it this next week I'm looking into finding some good control arms.

BTW: If anyone wants to trade streets for some radials, I have 265/35zr18 6/32 and 285/35zr18 11/32 nitto nt-555 I am willing to trade for the right radials. Prefer only to trade the rear 285's

Yeah. Wouldn't make any sense to put them on the front. :p

American muscle has they're " house brand". ie summit etc. on sale right now for 159.00 and that's shipped. That's for uppers and lowers.

Like everyone above has said^ And with those gears/tire combo you will probably never dead hook on the street. Just have to learn how to smoothly ease into the throttle while slipping out the clutch and "feather the gas" as traction allows. I've never gone wot in first without breaking loose, but I can still get into it pretty hard by using this technique.

How about I just sell you the whole car? ;) Its already setup perfectly, it would be a shame to part it out haha.
Cause I already got the car haha I just need the mods!..but I know it'd be a pain, but if you still got some of the stock parts you should definitely part it out. any pieces your willing to take off, I'd probably be willing to make an offer. suspension mods / engine / bolt ons / if you have black interior, I'd be interested buying or trading for my tan interior. but i can think of a few things just from looking at yours I could use. :D

Yeah its just not worth parting, but I appreciate the thought. I'd love to see its pieces spread throughout the sn95 community haha! Its just that since its tuned specifically for this setup, it wouldn't make sense unless I could find a buyer for the entire engine/blower/meth/fuel/intake setup, then I'd have to find a buyer for the built tranny, it would just never happen.

I do have a bunch of stock parts, I should make a FS thread, thanks for the idea brotha!
