help with my lights

ok here is the problem. I turn on my head lights and I get no accessory lights but if I push the switch in just a little the accessory lights come on and if i get it just right both the head lights and accessory lights will be on I would worry to much about the problem because its not hard to find the sweet spot , but after driving for about 30 min with the lights on everything goes crazy and the light just start blinking on and off like im turning them off and on. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem

Could just be a lose connection.

open up the guage bezel thing, and follow the headlight switch back and look for a loose connection... could just be wear and tear? id start there...

My '89 5.0 did that...it was the multi-switch turn-signal thing...

Might also want to check the headlight wiring harness plug right behind the headlight switch. They have a tendency to melt. Mine did the same thing except it was the headlights that i had to get in the sweet spot. The plug was fried and wasnt making a good connection

I've had this happen and it was the headlight switch. That is most likely your problem. If you have a multimeter/voltmeter you could probably play around with the switch and see if it rings out. You know pull it all the way out and see what the OHM reading is for you dash lights and then the opposite when you think you hit the sweat spot for both of them to work.

yeah if it your headlight switch, which thats what it sounds like, they are like 15 bucks at carquest.

I did a wire upgrade on the '89. I'll see if I can find the article how to do it. The Fox were notorious for melting the wiring with both headlights and fogs on. Seems it was just one wire from headlight switch to the harness in the steering column.
