So I have one bolt on my intake that has been giving me issues for a while. Its now to the point to where some coolant is getting past the gasket and leaking into the sparkplug hole. Anyway, it's the farthest bolt on the driver's side head and it gets really tight about 8/10th's of the way down and I know I'm not able to torque it correctly and not getting a good seal. I havent confirmed if it's the bolt itself(which I think is unlikely) or the threads in the head. If its the threads in the head, what do i use to correct it, a "thread cleaner"? I know I need to use something other than a tap becasue that will only make the hole larger, right? Help me out here so I can get this fixed for the new owner of the car. Also, what size is the bolt? I'm at work with no tools and need the size of the bolt or size or type of tap/thread cleaner so I can stop and get one after work.

Re: Help with PI intake bolt

here is what i would do.

-Grab another bolt from the junkyard 4.6
-run a tap for the stock size of the bolt down the hole in the head. Tjis will clean the thread.

Try and re-torque the bolt and see if it works.

FYI, You need to torque the manifold in the correct sequence or it may not seal against the head properly.

Re: Help with PI intake bolt

Yes I know there is a sequence. Well got to work on it yesterday and it turns out there was just some gunk down there. One of the gaskets was ripped so I replaced those and while dissasembling, the nipple on the back of the manifold that feeds the the heater core was broken.....so now I have no way of attaching that hose and the car just pukes coolant everywhere.

Yeah, you need a new intake manifold.

PM 330Cube, He is always getting used PI manifolds in perfect condition and sells them for a good price!! I bought mine from him and it came perfect!!!

You can cap it off and still drive the car, no heat of corse

330 cube is selling an intake that has the same problem as mine. The boss that the nipple protudes from in 4 inches long and a lot more beefy than the nipple, all I have to do is remove the intake and file down the support webbing around the boss so i can slip the hose all the way down over it.

As u can see the nipple section is broken off. You have to shave down those trusses/supports and then you can slip the hose down far enough to get a decent seal. I can deal with a small leak, just not a cloud of smoke flying out the back of my car like the other day.

Dont risk a small coolant leak, just get a new manifold.

If there is even a small leak in the cooling system then that means air will get into the sealed system and cause the car to run warmer.

car is being sold and the new owner is a member here and knows the problem. There is no reason that the modified manifold will leak. In reference to the picture above, the boss, after being shaved slightly to be smooth is larger in diameter than the nipple that cracked off, this in turn requires me to force the hose onto that location. It will be a tighter fit and I will also buy an appropriately sized, factory type hose clamp.

No, after really playing around with the drivetrain, ive come to realize its the bad pinion bearing and probably everything inside the pumpkin being chewed up that is just eating away at the u-joints, very, very quickly. The trans is fine, my mechanic told me I would have a lot more symptoms if the tranny was bad. It shifts to well and the vibration is at a too high of speeds to really affect everyday driving.
