The only thing I lost was AM radio reception. There is an aluminum shield on the top side which is grounded on the passenger side hood bracket. The shield eliminates RF interference from the engine.

I'm going to have to call BS.

That was my experience. Why do you think the aluminum shield is grounded?

I noticed no change in radio reception myself, but then again I never listen to AM.
It would seem that with all the modern electronics and grounding on todays auto's that something as simple as a foil backed insulator pad wouldn't have anything to do with radio reception.

My R hood doesn't have a ground coming off it, I wonder if there is no shield or if they didn't care cause the R didn't come with a radio. I believe my radio reception is shot but I always thought it was because of the shorty antenna. :dontknow:

It is a simple thing to try. IF the hood is not grounded and part of the circuit then it can act as a shield.

Now a shorty ant will also effect your reception as well. Antennas are not just any-old piece of wire that they stick in the back. They are mathmatically caluclated, carefully tuned and it doesn't take much to change the things that effect them.
