96's tend to be a lil pokey npi, but you can open them up pretty quickly pretty easly... mine a mid 12's car

The reason why people call them dogs because they were born at a time where ford put a "Cap" in a sense on anything performance related to the car. As time progressed, people unlocked the power out of these vehicles but in stock form, Honda's can keep up to you. The AODE is worse because it robs more power then a stick platform which makes it some-what-worse. I choose not to be discouraged about mine because I know one day, its going to make people think twice on how it runs, and what it have in it. :)

A 96 npi is slug if it's a stick. Really bad if it's an auto. No worse then a 5.0 though.

Having owned two of them I can tell you the 1996 Ford Mustang GT is a
excellent vehicle to own overall and a good platform too.
Speed wise stock they are kind-of slow maybe a high 14 second to
a 15 second vehicle bone stock.
I test drove two automatic AODE mustangs and the drivetrain loss was
terrible and it was too slow to buy so,I looked for a manual T45 mustang
and it was alot better I enjoy being able to really feel the car with a
manual transmission.
Once you start to mod them they will be faster performance wise.
I really like the SN95 body style though.

My 96 vert isn't too bad. Previous owner did the PI intake swap on it. Gotta say, I feel a difference. Not a huge amount but a difference. lol

you guys forget that 96+ had the 4r70w and not the AODE. You could do the pi swap, some gears, J-mod the tranny, and throw a stall in it and have a pretty quick car.

we cant really compare my gt to the one your looking at, its manual, and when i got it stock, wasnt really a dog.

they seem to have a good amount of push-you-back-in-your-seat power, and definatly enough to smoke the tires easily.

once i took the 6 cats off the exhaust, there was a huge pickup in power and sound.

bottom line, 4.6's can be modded fairly cheaply to reach 300 hp, but when stock, arent the fastest cars in the world.

I wouldnt worry about the auto if you plan on making it fast...

a 3200 PI converter, jmod, and 4.10 gears can take a sluggish NPI into a relatively quick car without even adding power.

Add some pi cams, pi intake, o/r h and theyre not so bad...

really depends on how fast you wanna go
