NYC I got a fully rebuilt rear and 4.10s installed for $700 plus change, could have been $400 if I didn't wanna fully rebuild the rear end.

And OP, 3.55 will be a waste of money unless youre putting down 800HP through an auto or something wild like that.

5.0 cars are best paired with 3.73's
2v cars get 3.73
4v cars should get MINIMUN of 4.10

IMO...

So what size rearend do these cars come with stock? On summit racing they sell gears for a 8.8" and a 7.5".

Also, my car does EXACTLY 2000 RPM at 75 MPH. Just went and tested it. So I came home and used this calculator to determine what you see in the pic. According to that calculator, my gear ratio is not 2:73, but is actually closer to 3.03. The car is a 5 speed so.... maybe the autos run different gear ratios from the factory.

Never heard of a 3.03 lol. Rear ends in the GT's are 8.8. And can't go wrong with Summit! I drove to the one by me and walked out the door for I think I said it before it was about $330 for the gears, install kit (bearings and shims) and fluid. Not a bad deal. Like everyone say's tho go with FRPP

3.08 gears could be a possibility

Its looking like that's what it must have. I'll see if I can check that little sticker.

I wonder if he has the stock tire size on his car. If not that could totally throw off his number in his calculator

It has the stock tire size of 245/45R17. Made sure of that when I recently purchased 4 new tires.

But uh, I was hoping that I could be cheap and just buy the gears and some fluid. And not have to buy a whole rebuild kit with all the bearings and races etc etc etc. Is that recommended? I'm kind of on a budget and any money I could save would go towards actually making this become a reailty.

I mean you can, but it's always recommended to change those things. You can get away with using the same shims but bearings and races you should change. And I do believe you have to change the crush sleeve. Then again if your putting the same diff back in, bearings may not be essential if your car has low enough miles. Mine had 140k on it when I put my 4.10's in so I changed it all out. I'm at 142 I think, been a minute since I've even sat in it, and I haven't had any noise from the rear yet

Do those things ever really wear out? I just can't remember the last time some said something like "Dang! The stock bearings and races in my rearend wore out!" I mean sure someday they have to wear out. But could it be one of those parts that doesn't die until about 350k miles? Maybe I'm just looking for ways to save money. But I also hate replaceing stuff that doesn't really need it.

I have done mant rears and only replaced the pinion nut and crush colar.I have a set of 180k 4.10s in my car with original carrier and pinion bearings from a foxbody. Everything looked to be in good condition so I used it. No noise no issues... I suggest you change everything you can but if you want to be cheap you can normally skip a few things to save time/money and still be safe.

Heads up and ass kickin! Using Tapatalk 2

If you're planning on making decent power in the future and using slicks or drag radials at the track you may want to consider upgrading at least the axles when you swap the gears.

I did the work myself but a reputable shop by me wanted 500$ with ford racing gears. Additional for a full rebuild. If ur gunna change the gears do the rebuild kit it's worth the money IMO. I have an 03 2v wit a 5 speed and 4.10s I turn up about 2600 at about 75 over about 22-2300 wit stock 3.27s. Highway no mpg loss really city kills me.

There is a way to find out your gears in your car by the sticker inside your drivers door. IIRC they correspond with a letter ill try to find the link.

Yeah I looked at that sticker but it doesn't say the gear ratio. Must be one of those weird codes on there. I can also check the tag on the diff if anyone knows how to read that one.

Can I just get any old rebuild kit from say orielly's or something? Or does it have to be specific in some way? I know little of rebuilding rearends or their components.

I paid $300 for my 4.10's, CF rebuild kit and all installed, guy who did it was one of the most OCD mechanics I have ever seen, exactly what you should look for in a mechanic :)

Well that was just my thought's lol. Idk when I have a car that I don't know the previous owners or how they drove the car, my line of thought is everything needs to be replaced. Why? Because you don't know if Joe Schmo before you beat the living shit out of it for the 40k or however long he owned it. When you abuse a car, no matter how well built, you are going to have to replace things. My bearings seemed decent too, but I am the 8th owner of my car and do not trust those things to hold up.

My dads good friend just got a 83 notch from his brother in law and trailered it home. Took the rear wheels off and he said it took him an hour to get those 2 wheels off because the studs were bent so bad. He said the lugnuts were so bad from the studs being bent that had he tried to drive it home, he would have gotten on it (like most of us do/would when we get a new car) and he would have easily lost one or both of the tires.

That's just how I see it. If you think there fine go ahead and reuse the. I'm just saying that I would suggest replacing old worn parts
