How much abuse can the old 8.8 take? Im going to have it rebuild, 4.10, steeda drag springs, control arms, possibly a 3000 stall and MT e/t drags. Could the 8.8 take this abuse? given its an auto so not really any high stall launches, everything but the stall is garenteed to be on the car.

An 8.8 will laugh at that, Ford did one thing right for sure, which is bless us with an overkill rearend.

Provided your trak-loc is in good working order, you'll be fine.

Pry just need some 31 splines... I think you would be alright then.

No need for 31 Spline axles...

If anything just get a set of hardened 28's.

My buddy has had a set of Moser hardened 28's and he puts 520 RWHP in a manual 93 GT. He beats the hell out of the car with ET/Drags and never had a problem.

The stock traction-loc will take a good amount of abuse....there are people that go well in the 10's with them.

If your doing a complete rebuild I would just rebuild the stock t-loc with one extra clutch per side.

If you have ABS it is a lil more work than normal but - it's not rocket science. Pretty straight forward.

I have not seen them but usually when they stop smoking when doing a burnout they are toast. As long as you stay off the street with them you should be fine. Isnt you car an auto?? If it is they could last you all year long...you may even bog out of the hole.. Have you put them on yet and tried them??

I went with MT ET Streets and as not to chance it up graded my rear end anyway. Figure it saves me from doing it in the future. Its not your 8.8 that you have to worry about its just the axles. It all depends on how much traction you get and how hard you dump it off the line if your drag racing with it. Hardened 28's may be fine they may not be it can go either way. You can find 10 people to say they busted the 28's at the track and find 15 that said they were fine. Im running Moser 31 Spline axles w/ an FMS limited slip.

PS: its not your HP that will break anything its your TQ and the sudden jolt to the drive train when launching off the line. Being at 390 FT LBS with more on the way it was nothing I wanted to personally chance.

Like I said before, with an automatic - unless your using a transbrake, 28's will be fine.

the ford 8.8 rear ends take ALOT of abuse and ive seen them hold up to 500+ hp. just rebuild it with new clutches and put like lucas friction modifier in there. youll be fine.

I run a rebuilt 8.8 with stock axles on a 200 shot and slicks and spraying a 50 dry shot off the line for about 12 months now and the 8.8 hasn't even blinked and I dump off the line hard. I've pulled 1.75 60's so I doubt you'll give it any trouble.
