Im not narrow minded at all, all ive ever said was that for straight line performance, automatics rule.

If I was road racing or autox I would 100% prefer a manual transmission.

if I was doing any type of racing that isnt drag racing I would prefer a manual transmission.

hell, I prefer a manual transmission in a weekend car

But if I wanna race and beat someone, auto is the way to go

Scott, you asked if manual would be better than an auto on an autox or road course...IMO, I dont think the manual would be "better"....but I just dont think an auto is the right transmission for that type of racing mainly due to heat build in the auto I doubt it would last long like that.

Assuming the drag racing is the type being done. Which is only one type of racing of the hundreds of types there are out there.

That being said, you have to admit there are such things as fast drag cars that are manual. It's not a requirement by any means to run an auto to be fast. Back in the day, I had a very fast & very consistant 347 powered '93 GT that was backed by a built Tremec 5 speed.

Yes, I agree with that, you would have to pretty much purpose build an auto with a very tight converter, great cooling system and I would suggest a manual valve body if you had planned on racing it anything other than drag racing, otherwise it would be gay and kill itself with heat.

Manual is the way to go in any other racing.

And of course, the auto is not a requirement at all and there are many fast manual cars....my point is that same 347 IMO with a nice built up auto and a proper converter would be faster in as straight line than the same car with the manual, IMO of course.

Maybe im wrong and maybe the tremec would be just as fast if it was an NA car but when were talking boost, the autos really shine.

Turbos and autos were made for eachother...the ability to spool the turbo off the line with a trans break and the ability to shift without ever losing that boost pressure makes an auto+ turbo a deadly combination

Faster, probably not. The auto sucks more power because it has a viscous coupling instead of a mechanical coupling. More consistent more easily, yes.

The same boost off the line can be achieved via a 2-step or other boost controller like those used in AEM or FAST systems. You're right though, you'll lose some boost between shifts.

Autos are gay.

Meh, yes the auto sucks more power but that wont stop it from being faster....kinda like how my car made 360s-370s rwhp on the dyno on avg and ran 11.30s@ 121 mph, meanwhile Ive seen a million and a half 400 rwhp 5 speed vortech mustangs run 12s @114-116 MPH.

I would say in 99% of cases the auto car will still run faster. Very few people can drive a manual car anywhere near the full potential and you just cant match the shifts and torque multiplication from an auto....however, I will agree with you that an amazing driver in a manual car should be able to run faster times but that also would probably require launching at 6k and flat shifting.

That is true....

You might disagree, but everyone else wouldn't. :p

Not a douche - you're just too easy to get going.
