Removing the EGR would not cause this. The ECM deletes the EGR function when it throws an EGR code.

I don't believe this is true. My car ran horribly the minute I took the EGR off. Reinstalled it, and it worked like a champ.

I've deleted it on my fox and on my SN and never had a problem :dontknow:

Lots of other folks here, including me, have had the opposite experience. Not only a CEL, but also a car that won't idle well, poor drivability, etc...

Not denying that. I've read the threads. Just saying it Shouldn't. Why it does for some people? No clue. Yes CEL is a side effect of it but thats all In my personal experience.

I disagree. Turning it off stops the check engine light from coming on. But when it throws a CEL for the EGR it also turns it off.

You can disagree all you like my friend, I know how my car runs and how it was tuned. I never had a CEL issue before, even with the bad o2's. Who knows? :donknow: Maybe the bulb is burnt out :) I deleted the cats, smog pump, thermactor tubing and EGR all in one fatal swoop. No issues.... ever...

Yeah, except I'm not the only person who had the exact same problems.

Lets not clutter this thread with arguing over egr. the CEL isn't a big deal to me. And you can resistor it so it doesn't turn on. And Im not sure how you and the others that there car ran like crap deleted it vs the rest of us but there has to be something missing. You do it your way. I'll do it mine

Paul is knowledgeable, probably more so than than quite a few people. His experience with this issue has obviously caused him to have the negative opinion he has about EGR deletion, and it is valid. I had the same exact issues as he explained, but like a dummy i deleted it anyways. Guess what is back on my car? an EGR valve. However it cant hurt to experiment and see for yourself. All cars are different and will react differently. BUT to get back on topic OP id for starters check for vacuum leaks, and get in with a HAYNES manual, not a chiltons. Chiltons are garbage.

to end this whole running like crap w/o egr debate/argument, my car started running bad a MONTH AND A HALF after i deleted it. so there ya go. no way it could have been the egr. it would have ran bad after IMMEDIATE removal.

so obviously the A/F ratio is going cookoo somehow.

vaccuum leak, i would possibly rule out. because would it cause a very rough idle? because it idle smooth, just a little low.

well im going to get it scanned for codes tomorrow. so ill update this asap for further help

now what would i have to do to check the fuel pressure? is there a tool i can buy at a parts store?

Auto zone sells little fuel pressure gauges that screw into the schrader valve on your fuel rail. That is the best way of checking your FP other than having one installed in the car

I'm 99.9% sure it's ur MAF. The exact same thing happened to my stang a while back. To find out, I unplugged mine (even though everyone was against the idea) and my car started running like never before. I replaced it and it has run without a hitch ever since, it didn't hurt for me to try it and I didn't have to spend money looking for other faults. By the way I tried cleaning it before I replaced it and well you know the rest of the story.

Before my Fuel pump went out i had 2 of my cats go bad and they wouldn't let any exhaust gases through. I had to replace them.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the PIP sensor in the distributor. That going bad could cause the OPs problems. It sounds more like the MAF, but the PIP is a close second place.
