Idling problems...

I washed my engine today and after I got done it was idling rough. So I took off the neg. battery cable to let the computer reset itself. After I hooked it back up and gave it time to relearn idel, it is now idling around 1500 rpms in park and neutral and in drive it is around 1000 rpms. Also when you put it in gear now it slams hard into reverse of drive but im assuming that is do to the high idel. But does anynone know why it is idling so high? I thought maybe the idel screw just needs turned down or the tps needs adjusted. But I wanted some spinions on this before I do anything.

check for vaccum leaks for starters, did you give your car a chance to dry out? you may have gotten water in your air box and that coulda dicked with your MAF possibly

I have a cai on there and I dont think that any water would be able to get in there. But it is idling fine today but now the cel light keeps coming on and going off. Also is it normal for the car to just be sitting and it will idel up for a short period of time and them fall back down?

Well i would taking a few of the connectors off [iac etc] and see if any water has got in, if it was fine before, something still has damp in it.
Normally letting it idle should dry most stuff out, but it would be a major coincidence if something fails the day you wash it.

I found out what it was...I pulled the codes and the tps came up, and the voltage is not even close to what it needs to be. Gotta go buy a new on today. :bunny3:

Wonder if damp can short it, or was it just bad luck?

It had been screwed up (not in the right voltage range). So I would say bad luck, in the past three weeks I have had someone break into my car and steal my headunit and xm radio :knuppel2:, then my back 1/4 glass got broke :tickedoff:, I got a ticket the other day for speeding :blah2:, and then the tps $hit out on me :rant2:. But I replaced it today and its just fine now. :coolsmiley:
